ivan2000 -> The 2008 NBA Playoffs (5/25/2008 1:40:12 AM)

It has been a classic match up between great teams...primarily in the Western Conference. I am a San Antonio Spurs fan. Right now, my team is in an incredibly difficult situation which very few have over come. Although just a short time ago, the Spurs did claw themselves out of a 0-2 hole and win the New Orleans series, such a task is so difficult, to try and do so twice in the same post season may be tempting fate. [sm=worried.gif] Boston & Detroit are putting on a show of power (the only powers) in the Eastern Conference. No matter what the outcome, this will be a series not long forgotten. Many people doubt the Spurs. Some even go to the extreme and say that they hate the San Antonio Spurs. They say their dirty...I say they play old school ball. They say their boring...I say their true role models. I know they are in a very hard place right now, but I believe. I have to. The Spurs symbolize the working man. Life is not about glamour, fame, arrogance and entitlement. Just as I have all my life, this team truly works for all that they have achieved. [sm=angelic.gif] So many people want to see the Lakers win this series because they are not "boring", play an exciting version of basketball, and more than anything entertain those seeking entertainment. Kobe Bryant is in my opinion the 2nd best ball player of all time...right behind Michael Jordan. However, he is a very arrogant person. Very cocky, and feels that because who he is, he is entitled to win all the time. When his team hit rock bottom, his true colors were shown when he made a classless move and demanded a trade publicly criticizing his own organization, management and even one of his team-mates. (Andrew Bynum). I believe strongly in this scripture: Luke 14:11 "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." The Spurs are a team that is truly team oriented. They are selfless, and work as one unit. Not just the players, but the coaches and owners as well. They are truly humble and care not for their own egos or accomplishments, just what is beneficial for the team. These are traits I pray my son follows as he is in love with the sport of basketball. I raise him to be humble, but it's nice to see there are actually still genuine athletes out there in which I don't mind him trying to emulate. There are no sexual assault scandals against anyone, no DUI or drug convictions or admissions of use. This is a truly humble and wholesome team. There was a time where I would always pray for victories. Just empty "Please God let them win" prayers. I recently realized how fruitless those prayers were as God has no immediate interest in intervening in basketball games. It would be an unfair advantage for the Spurs if God truly favored the team as far as the competition is concerned. I understand now what must be prayed for. That which I know God is willing to do if I have faith in him. That being said...I pray now that all of the San Antonio players be healed by the healing touch of God. I pray that these very words by the power in the name of Christ Jesus, that they be rejuvenated, re-energized, confident in themselves (coaches and players) and have an immovable faith that they will come back from 0-2 again and beat this Lakers team. In Jesus Christ name, Amen. They will obviously have to take care of the playing part, so winning and playing smart is up to them. This team has never defended a title. I pray that God truly exalts the humble here and humbles those who always exalt themselves. Now that's just me praying for my team. What is your take on this post season? Predictions, favorite teams, hopes for next season, etc. God Bless you all, & GO SPURS GO!!!
