We live in a global society people. What we do or don't do effects others. How many nations would starve if we didn't provide food aid? How many countries would be bankrupt without our financial bailouts? Should we "expect" countries like China and India to do without so that we can buy all the oil we want? Should we stop exporting food to third world countries so that we can live in abundance?

Hey, at least Obama is not claiming to wipe out childhood obesity during his term in office like McCain did. [8D]

Fuel and food rationing would be constitutional. It happened during WWII and I am not aware of any challenges that were even close to being successful. A law telling adults if they can or can not have children and how many would most likely be shot down. There is plenty of caselaw that indicates this, comrade.

Ok. How's this go. I have paid $0 in federal income tax since 2001. The last 4 years I average $3800 on my income tax return. This year it was closer to $5500 because of the rebate. Who is paying for it?

When the government is running nothing but deficits and it keeps re-imbursing money that money it re-imburses has to come from somewhere. Where is that money coming from? I'll give you a hint. They sell bonds to pay for it. Who is the biggest foreign buyer of US bonds?

Gas prices jump up to $5.00 a gallon because demand is so high because people insist on buying gas-guzzling SUV's.

Energy prices skyrocket or potentially life-threatening power outages become more frequent due to the strain on the power grid from "air conditioner gluttons".

They are tax credits and not tax cuts. Under Bill Clinton that Child tax credit couldn't take you under $0. Bush and the Republican Congress changed it so you could. It's not so much a "congratulatory" thing it is because I am the only wage earner with a wife and 3 kids. We choose to raise our own kids.
