Mine is just a lot of things that is kind of causing a chain reaction. I tried to make things better by making change, but ended up setting myself back about 3 steps.

NOT. You are NOT 3 steps back. You are waaayyyy ahead, because now you are not wondering anymore...you know for sure that THAT adventure wasn't the one you wanted. You've narrowed your options, so that's a good thing. And you'll never have to wonder again "what if I had done that? Maybe I that was what God wanted???" You know for sure and it will never be an issue again. Not only have you had an adventure and enriched your life by some experiences (never mind the fact that they may have been somewhat negative...your life is still enriched by them. You learned some things!) but you've eliminated one source of doubt. YOU GO GIRL. Put your face forward and take the next step. besiderself

I will admit I learned from this experience. I came back to having to start all over again though.

ORIGINAL: besiderself What is normal, you ask! *stretches hand high and jumps up and down in her seat* "I KNOW, I KNOW!! ...Normal is a setting on your dryer!" A story to hopefully provide a good and needed laugh (sounds like it, anyway) for you: My family isn't normal. (No, wait! As complete as that sounds, I'm not done.) My family isn't normal. A few years ago, we were sitting around the house together as usual talking and laughing. We entered a discussion about who was the most normal in the family. We ranked ourselves on a scale from 1 to 4, with 4 being the least normal. Of course, each of us proclaimed ourselves as the most normal, immediately followed by rebuttals and examples to the contrary. The only consensus upon which we could agree is that none of us qualified as normal. About a week or so later (it was sometime in November), my mom discovered and purchased a bookmark that read what Esther posted: Normal is just a setting on the dryer. Mom was in stitches. She decided that she would put the bookmark in the Christmas stocking of the person she deemed to be the least normal. Of course, she put it in my dad's stocking. The passing of the bookmark reminded my dad and brother of a movie called "The Curse of the Demon." In this movie, a misguided cult congers the appearance of a demon. In order to appease the demon, they must offer it a human sacrifice. To determine the person to be the sacrifice, they must surreptitiously and unknowingly transfer a parchment into the intended victim's possession. The only way that the unfortunate holder of the parchment can avoid certain death is to return the parchment from whence it came. Thus began our "normal" game. If you were the possessor of the bookmark, you automatically received #4 status. For over a year, we passed the bookmark amongst ourselves. At first, the transfers were easy, but after time and practice all of us developed our stealth skills to near-grand levels of mastery (except Mom). The family has even recounted how I passed the bookmark to Dad in the offering plate at church, an action that I quietly deny. One of my favorite transfers took place while we were playing croquet. I had put the bookmark in my dad's jacket in the hopes of giving it to him. The jacket was across the grassy area of the park. When we were getting ready to leave, my dad asked, "Lauren, would you get my jacket for me?" "Gladly!!!" Too funny. He actually asked for the bookmark. Normal? Mom and I decided to toss the bookmark at a certain point. We all were beginning to be hesistant to accept anything from each other. Would you believe, though, that my mom and brother wished that we still had it so that they could put it in my dad's casket? LOL! He'd be the permanent #4.

Oh, Shema, what a great story! And what a close and loving family! I so wish I could remember lovely things like this about my father. I envy you.

ORIGINAL: AngelInWaiting1983 I will admit I learned from this experience. I came back to having to start all over again though. Hmmm...sounds like you didn't quite take to heart what I said before... Allow me to reframe that bolded part for you... "I'm back now, with a better idea what I want out of life, and I'm rarin' and ready to go to begin my life with a fresh, new start!!" It's true. And if you need any help knowing that it's true, try the following scripture: Philippians 3:12 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are qmature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16 Only tlet us hold true to what we have attained. The Holy Bible : English Standard Version., Php 3:13-16 (Wheaton: Standard Bible Society, 2001). So now. You are going to forget, for one thing (and because it's not true) that this adventure was a failure. You are going to let it go so that you can use both hands to reach for the future. You're going to set your mind on doing exactly what God is laying on your heart. Since you are thinking otherwise at this moment, God is reminding you through me and Pammy and others that you need to take every thought captive and change that way of thinking, and hold to the truth. The truth is God had a plan, and your adventure was part of it, and He HAS a plan, whatever comes next will be part of it. You can't miss it. WOOOOHOOOO Terri! You can do it! besiderself

Patsy Clairmont was at the Women of Faith conference that I attended with a bunch of ladies from my church last weekend in Washington. What a blast that was! I think Patsy was my favorite. I had never seen/heard her before.

Hey everyone; I'm on the old computer taking a moment to check with my friends. Keep praying for my sick computer! I've been thinking a lot the last few days, but I can't make my mind settle out the information. Maybe some of your thoughts about this subject will help me understand how to think righteously about these things. In another thread, "balance" has been discussed as very important. By "balance" I mean keeping work, sleep, exersize, health, relationships, and worship etc. in proper proportion. But as a single parent, "balance" seems like a luxury that I can't afford. On the other hand, if I do not manage to balance my life a little, it will balance itself...usually very inconveniently. As my pursuit of my degree continues, I find myself wondering what is the best way to do it. If I continue to go full time, I could possibly finish by December 09. It will be very hard. There will be little time for family/kids, no time for "rest" for myself (and I don't mean just sleep). Financially I will have spent all my available funds in getting my degree and will be forced to seek a full-time, hopefully very good paying regular job at that point. On the other hand, I can take a little more time at getting my degree (is this a good idea at age 48?) I can work a little more, spend more time with my children (my emptying nest makes me want to give them all the time I can) and yet take the chance that some life circumstance will interfere with getting my degree in the extra time it will take to get it, preventing me from getting it at all. I will still have to get a job at the end of the deal, but may have more freedom in what I can get OR may have more responsibilities (more children in college). Geez. It's really hard to find the right "balance"! But my mind and my body keep rebelling at the difficulty of pushing myself so hard, yet my finances keep yelling that it's only going to get hard as time goes on. Anybody ever faced this kind of decision? Anybody have any thoughts on this? Sorry...I haven't got a song for this. If you have one, be sure to post it as a Chanson du jour! besiderself
