I'm so over this. I've got two Rhoomba's, a Scooba (because dh refuses to believe they don't WORK) and now a Dyson that wont pick up anything at all. I could throw the thing in the pool right now. I just want a vaccuum that will VACCUUM!!!! Is there one that works?

we have a Kirby and I have always been impressed with how well it works. It might be pricey, but to me it is worth it because you pay the price up front for something that will last forever and you don't end up throwing away vacuum after vacuum year after year because they are so cheap.

When I had this issue many years ago, I went to a local vacuum repair guy and said, "OK, I have 5 kids and numerous fur bearing critters. I vacuum every day. If you were me, what would you buy?" He said either a Kirby or a Panasonic.

I picked up a rebuilt Panasonic on ebay for less than $100. It finally died, after being used almost every day for about 8 years. I loved it. It picked up everything, including small children if you weren't careful. [;)] It rarely got plugged, but if it did, it came apart everywhere, so you didn't have to ream it out with a coat hanger. You could actually take the hose off both the back and underneath the machine.

My dh, being the "gotta have it now" type, helpfully bought me one of those cyclone pet hair things. I think it's a Bissell. I hate it. It is constantly getting plugged up. I have to take the stupid machine apart at least 3 times during every vacuuming session.

I am watching ebay for another Panasonic. [:)]

I've had a Bissell Powerforce for about 6 years now and it still works great. It's bagless and picks up wonderfully as long as I keep the filter cleaned out regularly. When it stops picking up well, I know the filter needs to be washed out.

I had a Eureka that I literally used and abused for more than ten years. It finally died last year and we replaced it with something yellow...let me look.

Oh...we replaced it with another Eureka. [:D] This new one is bagless and has a built-in duster thingy.

i love my dyson......once upon a time it quit "sucking" and i took out the little round filter, washed and dried it, and it worked like new.

Cleaning the filters regularly make a HUGE difference with any bagless vacuum. Mine gets cleaned every 3-4 weeks.

I was buying a new one every few months until we got our dyson 3 years ago and no problems, I did have to clean BOTH filters, there is a secret one I never knew until last yr when a friends hubby told me he had discovered theirs. Maybe try cleaning your filters once a month in the dyson?

That's true...mine has a second "hidden" filter that has to be cleaned to.

The usual reasons that vacuums don't work are because of bags that are full, filters that need cleaning, belts that need to be changed or improper height adjustment. I don't know the first thing about a dyson so I can't help you there. I do clean professionally and we use a commercial Sanitaire. It has a cloth bag that gets dumped each and every time it is used. We used to have two dogs and two teens. Now we are down to one dog and one teen. I am not a fan of all the plastic on vacuums because they break easily and cannot be repaired. The Sanitaire's that we have were both rebuilt. I used to have a friend in the vacuum repair business. They rarely break down and if they do they are cheap and easy to repair. We can do most repairs ourselves now that we have had those for so many years.

Hmmm.....maybe I'll get this Dyson I've been yelling at all day out of my yard sale pile tomorrow and search for a mystery filter. Actually, my aunt and uncle are coming tomorrow for a visit and I might ask him to help me. I would be so happy if it turned out to be something that silly. It seemed like the beater brush just stopped working one day. I took all that apart and cleaned it but that didn't help. Now, even the attachments - which I've actually been vaccuuming my whole house with! don't seem to be working either. Interesting. I'll let you know.

maybe you should call Dyson or the place you got it from. Do you have a warranty on it?
What type do you have? if its like THIS then you will find a filter in the base when you remove the container part and you will also find one on the top of the containter, like under the yellow sort of part on the container.

We have a Kirby that works awesome,and has never given us any problems.We also have a swiffer that works very well also,and an old electolux that works ok too.

I hopefully have one that works really well now. =)

Our old vacuum was/is a rainbow (uses water, not filters/bags) but last night we went to Sears and bought THIS one. It's still in it's box, but hopefully it does a fantastic job. It was rated #1 (above a Dyson, for less $!!) by a consumer report type of study... (not sure that it was actually "consumer reports" but if not, it was very similar)

Did you find the "hidden" filter? I've had my eye on a dyson for some time now. ATM i'm using a hoover windtunnel, I've had it for 5 years and it's starting to work less and less, (maybe i should search it for a hidden filter) however it is not a bagless.

I gave up altogether and bought a shop vac. It never clogs, and I just dump the container on occasion.

I have yet to use a bagless that works without clogging on pet hair. I hate them!

Had a Panasonic. Loved it. Changed the belt many times. Finally burned out the motor after 8 years of use (I was growing my hair long and didn't cut it off the spinning brush).

Got a Bosch. Nicely designed but bagless and everything got stuck in it. Drove me crazy.

Dh bought me a Kenmore this year and I'm only having so-so luck with it. I want my Panasonic back. It was big and we had to buy bags for it all the time but it rarely plugged up.

We have a Hoover Celebrity that is 28 years old and works fine. [:)] Paid around $30 for it, brand new! I wrote to the company on line to commend them for a good product and that it worked well. They asked me what was wrong with it. I wrote back and said nothing was wrong. They wrote back again thinking something must be wrong. Couldn't take a compliment!

We didn't find a second filter but my uncle took the whole thing apart and found a 6" long PAINTBRUSH stuck in it!!! Can you believe that?!?!

That's funny! Does it work now?


We have a Royal Everlast for the carpets, and a Bosch for the hard floors. Like them both very much.

Wow, that would have been clogging it up alot. What kind of Dyson do you have? I would call them if its still not working. And you should have a 2 year warranty with it. I bought an extended warranty with mine.

That is the vacuum I bought a few months ago and I hope you like it as well as I do.
