It has been a bit since i have looked at the seeds, so let's see what i can remember...
Timothy got carrots and beets. Caleb has made a cave shaped structure and is going to transplant some grape vines to grow on it. david got some texas blue bonnets. Sarah got some flowers as did Rebekah. I still haven't gotten around to getting Rebekah her strawberries. It seems to me that one of the kids was planting chives and sunflowers.
I would probably only be sending Rebekah to the party since she is the only one that is actually in her class. II might just take you up on that. Thanks for being willing.

I did think about doubling up at one point, but I am trying not to overload him with work. He is doing such a good job this year with taking on the responsibility of his schoolwork that I don't want to discourage him. I also want him to have the time to pursue more interests.
I like the idea of just hitting on some of the topics (may be during this summer). It would be easier if I knew which ones to hit. Maybe Russ would. Russ really wants David to just double up, but I am sure that if I gave him a workable plan to cover any gaps, he would probably be go with it.
I am trying to convince myself that the KIDS won't feel like they are missing out (they love the DVDs in the younger grades especially). Sarah still talks about not finishing K5 completely. 
BTW: I think it is so cute that Noah wants to bring home his books to finish them. what a change in attitude from NOT wanting to do his work.

Maybe you could start a thread and list the chapter titles and let us suggest some?  Remind me if I'm wrong...7th grade BJU is physical science and 8th grade is earth science, right? You could have him test on all the chapters and work on those he scores the lowest on, ending the chapters with a mini-report instead of you having to make another test up?

I found Basic College Mathematics printed in 2005 with the unopened DVD that shows every chapter test problem worked out for you, at the salvation army for *ahem* 99 cent!
Guess what Trill will be doing an over view of this summer. 
Ellie- the beauty of Homeschooling is that you can have a child doing 3rd grade math and 2nd grade reading/grammar. Take a deep breath and buck the public school belief that every child should be doing the same grade across the board.
As for the finishing the book issue. I cannot remember EVER finishing an entire text in school. It never happened.
Science. Knowing if there will be gaps- I'd say look at the chapter headings in the books you want him to either skip or push through. he very likely already has a working knowledge of a lot of the stuff. 7th grade BJU HomeSat life science 8th grade BJU earth and space science I like the latter because the table of contents gives a list of the student activities. :)
I can remember skipping entire chapters in text books in highschool. and high School history??? oh my! we never even OPENED THE TEXT!

We never finished a text in highschool, and we don't finish them so far in my college classes either. We only did 12 out of 30 chapters in my Psych class.

We didn't quite finish our math books this school year, but I'm not worried about it. When they start the next week they always start by repeating what they learned the year before, especially in the later lessons. I don't think there will be any problems with gaps. We've finished our 180 days, and we need to get cracking on the 4-H projects.

I would just tell her flat out. Like I was telling my dh last night, some people do not get it unless you spell it out for them. I am learning to do this more diplomatically, but it's still blunt. Take it or leave it, that's how I am. Funny thing is, I am realizing that is why I am asked to do certain things. Someone recently told me what others say about me. It was kind of funny. Things like, you can't walk over Cynthia, she'll stand her ground. Yeah, let's get her to help us.
We do not start a math book until we finished the last, but that doesn't mean we finish each book before going onto the next. Two of my children are in the middle of math books that they will pick up where they left off when school starts again. One of my children needs to finish her math book, so she will continue until she is done, which may take her all summer, we'll see.

I'm horrible at that. I tend to let people walk all over me. When I've finally had enough, I blow up over some stupid little thing and look like an idiot. The thing is that I always feel so awful standing up for myself. I was raised to feel like everything is my fault, no excuses. I've gotten a little better at it, but it's definitely baby steps. Now, I'm not entirely that way with my husband. I'll at least tell him how I feel about things.

The SWAT team and two police departments are involved in a standoff...up the street from here.
We are also having a thunderstorm. So, Nate's theory is that the police should erect a metal pole attached to the house out of which the perps will not come, lol, which he says will either get them out or incapacitate them.
I have scary children. Have you ever wondered what happened when Calvin became an adolescent? I don't wonder. I know.

Cynthia, have you ordered the Starting Points for your DD yet? If you do have it, I was wondering how it looks to you? Is it something that is very teacher friendly even though there is no teacher's book?

Ok, ladies, I do NOT want to go to work today. I have my fuzzy bathrobe on and I just want to go back to bed.  I miss my kids. At least one of them is going to want to go to youth group tonight but since he's having math troubles and needs my help I am going to have to say no--after all, with jukido and karate tomorrow night, it would otherwise have to wait for the weekend.
Also, my house is a mess because I am too busy and tired to do more than the bare minimum around here.
And, my boss didn't ok my time until yesterday (after throwing a fit that I worked 15 minutes late on Thursday!) so I may not even get paid this week.

I met a two year old fifth grader last night. And we thought homeschoolers were advanced! LOL Actually, what happened was her parents wanted her picture taken at the same time as all her older brothers. The picture-taking company requires a sibling's name and grade on the form in order to get the pictures to the family, right? Well, this picture-taking company apparently is low on critical thinking because, sure enough, right after her brother's pic in the yearbook they put hers! NO ONE noticed a cute little 2 yo in that book before it was published!

Hi all.
Thanks for the prayers, amy! I am so distraught. I expected something like this, but not this bad. Every time we have ever helped out anyone with shelter for any length of time, the leaving is never what you would expect. I think people resent needing help, and take it out on the people who have helped them, strangely enough.
But this takes the cake! Please keep praying for my daughter. Teenage feelings are so strong!
Here we tried to help this boy leave a life of wickedness and poverty behind, and in the end he wants to take our daughter back to share his family's world.  I know teenagers are stupid and don't think things through, but that is beyond dumb!
Dd says that she doesn't know what she was thinking, and no way does she want a life like that. But the problem is that she is still holding out for some other solution that would allow them to get married someday.  Like after college, but she still wants this LDR in between. And she's trying to suggest to him that he find someone else to live with in our city, instead of going to MD to his mom's.
(NO NO NO NO NO! PLEASE GOD GET HIM FAR FAR AWAY! )
My dd is already praying the right prayers: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done. But it's pretty clear that she is deep in the throes of stupid blind "in love".
Pray for me that I won't rant all day! I couldn't sleep, and have been up praying all night.
I knew there was this risk in helping a teen boy, but we fully believed the Lord would protect our family. And I still believe it, but it is scary, hold-on-for-dear-life believing. Sort of "I believe, Lord help my unbelief"!
