No Donna, they don't get the sibling thing. Once we had to have the cops involved in a placement dispute and he told the cop straight out that he could give two s**** about the family in our house. He said that to the cop. What does that tell you? The cop kind of looked at him and reminded him that it was about how JAKE felt and not how HE felt. They are like so blind to anything beyond their household. But then again, that is all they know. Not an excuse because there is no excuse for that type of stupidity. Just that they don't deal with the siblings so they tend to block them out.

Hey I've been in and out. Just not around much KWIM? Stressed. Tired. Kids are out of school. Doing great. BigBee is at camp, DeeDee is at Granny's and Poppa has to travel for work and I am going nuts at work. My dad had unexpected quad-bypass surgery and is doing wonderful. He was mad when he heard how much the therapist wanted him to walk because he didn't want to cut back that much. She wanted 7 minutes, 3 times a day and he was doing 10-12 minutes four times a day in the hospital. Tracy / Donna, I think of you often. I have a co-worker who is going through things that you could relate to, so it has been on my heart. In this case, it is DAD who seems to be more interested in doing what is best for their son and mom seems to want to use him to dig at dad. But, dad had me listen to a voice mail and he said about how mean she sounded and how snippy she was and well, I heard myself. I heard short sentances to hide emotions and the strident tone of someone who believes they are right. I didn't tell Dad that. But, when he tells me what is going on, I think you both and wonder how you are doing. Garsy, I'm glad you found a pack. I know a Girl Guide leader in England who does a blog and it seems to work well for them. Remember to check the BSA rules for sites. As far as I'm concerned, it is common sense. Lock the site or only use first names. No phone numbers for boys, no identified relationships. If you say Den Leader's son and have the DL's address / phone you have given directions to a child's house. You know that, I know that, unfortunately, folks don't think of that. Oh, as a side note, the Guider in England took her group (PACK?) to see JK Rowling read the opening of the last Harry Potter book when it was released. They were in uniform, in a photo that was published by the AP, sitting very near to her. That was cool, regardless of how you feel about the book. Kath, I have really wanted to talk to you off-forums but I know I would just end up dumping and don't know if that is productive or not.

I was posting, and had to close... It boiled down to my Mom & Dad are diabetic, Dad just had quad-bypass done and they are both on very controlled diets. DeeDee is with them this week. She is hungry. I had to pick her up and go to a funeral home last night (my BIL's father) and Granny said that she only ate her salad for supper. Then, she ate a piece of banana bread with cream cheese. I suggested the salmon patties / mac-n-cheese that was on the table and learned they were from lunch. When we got into the car, she said she was hungry, so I stopped at the store and bought more food and got her an ice cream cone as a treat. I knew she needs to learn to make good choices, but she already does make ok'ish choices for a 10 yo. I mean, she is growing, has no underlying health problems and is smart. She is fine with more than 5 servings of fruit and you know, some sugar won't hurt her. She said that she only had a small bowl of cereal and some granola for breakfast. I don't know it that was Granny's suggestion or DeeDee's choice so that she didn't use up too much food. But, I'd hate to eat the same thing for supper that I had for a 'big' lunch. (Because you know, in Woman's Garden Day Living, that was what they recommended to lose weight. Mom will tell you she lowered her cholestrol by adding real butter to her diet. I'm sure it had nothing to do with cutting out the snacks, the fryed foods and learning that she was eating 2-3 servings and calling it one and then making the appropriate adjustments) DeeDee has to stay at least 3 more weeks. I may look for another camp for her for one of them.

((MBee)) and ((Garsy)) Tracy, I look forward to hearing that you're settled and "mostly" unpacked. Everyone else, hello and I hope you're having good days. Is everyone out of school, except for summer school, now? We've had thunderstorm warnings again this week and finally more than an inch of rain, but it soaked in pretty fast. Lord, please send rain. Our family reunion this past Saturday was fun. We were able to speak with most everyone who was there, and the long drive was fairly pleasant. My sister took Mom down to the reunion, and we drove her back. She had a good day, was in a good humor, pretty much knew everybody, and was very tired when she got back to the nursing home. We have VBS this week and are enjoying a small, but excited group of kids. A good many folks are on vacation this week, so we're missing some of our "usual" VBS crowd.

Tracy, hope moving went well and the house is currently unpacking itself. Garsy, I've never had poison ivy and I don't think I want it. How long does it take to go away? MBee, she may need to lose weight, but for a child to eliminate everything is different than an adult with health issues, IMO. They don't usually need that drastic cut-back. And yeah...I don't like to eat the same food two meals in a row either, unless it's something I really like. Ugh. Debilyn, have fun with VBS! Nick's last day of school is today...his third half day this week (you all know how I feel about that... ). We pick him up Friday and have him through July 6th at bedtime. I really hope he comes in a better "mood" than he did last weekend. We are going to the zoo tonight. Once a year, they have a member's only picnic in the evening. It's the one time a year we make Brian go with us. Since Nick can't come, I let Noah invite a friend. He's all excited about that.

The zoo sounds like fun. I'd like to get to the Erie one, and the Avary, but I've said that before. The thing about DeeDee is she doesn't need to lose weight. I'll accept she doesn't need bad habits, or she will be in the same boat as my Mom & Dad. If I am understanding it correctly, she is getting one serving of what she has to eat, but not enough total servings for the day. KWIM. I spent all this year trying to tell her she isn't fat. The girl is 110# and 5 ft 1 inch. She has no waist - this is common on a 10/11 yo. Tracy, I keep thinking about your move. Mainly when I walk into my house and realize I could never move if I had too - too much junk. You inspire me to look at it critically so that I could do it as easy as you have made it feel. Garsy - we have to get steroids when BigBee gets it. Or at least we used to - we now avoid it like the plague. Ever year, Poppa gets a zippy bag and turns it inside out on his hand to pick some and then zip it shut to show everyone.

Garsy-Sorry about the poison ivy!! Ugh. I need to check our yard to verify that all of the poison oak that I sprayed has died back. We had a nice trip to the beach this weekend (3.5 days) to visit with family. I don't think that we will be able to take any longer trips this year, but the time with family and time at the beach were fun!

Garsy, I sent you a PM about something that helped my husband with his poison ivy. It may help you. Hope everyone is having a good day today. It's a quiet day for me. Everyone is busy, and I have a few hours to catch up on some things. Guess I need to get to work and get those things done.

OK - what is the big idea keeping helpful secrets? You are supposed to share information. BigBee is at camp and I ended up 'helping' him flirt with a girl. He wanted to impress her, so I stood around letting him look like he dotes on his Momma. We were discussing how he would be good with the little kids and we tried to come up with a nickname for him. She said he was a Pain in the But (can I say that here) so I suggested PIB. I don't think it will hold, but it was nice to see he was enjoying the conversation with her, while still including me.

I just found out that he is in class sitting next to an EMT so there is someone right there keeping an eye on him. That's all I know right now. Hoping the EMT convinces him to go and then takes him there himself! Blessings, Garsy

he is a diabetic so occasionally things do get out of whack, but this was by far the most extreme it has been in a VERY long time! I'm waiting for him to get home now. I talked to my parents - I think they are considering staying here a few days after they get back from their trip. That might be a good idea depending upon what happens today. I guess the trip is going really well! We got bus schedules today in the mail. As I figured the bus times are REALLY close to what they were last year. Ty's pick up time is about 5 minutes earlier tho. But for now we have bus service! Man! I should have gotten my teaching degree! They are hiring a new 5th grade teacher at our school as well as a Reading Recovery teacher. Earlier in the summer they were hiring a pt kindergarten teacher! PLUS I could easily have my fair share of simply sub jobs if I didn't want full time work! Ah well they always say hindsight is 20/20! Ty's getting worried tho. The highschool's drama teacher quit this year and they have yet to hire a new teacher. And thanks for praying everyone! Blessings, Garsy

Man! I should have gotten my teaching degree! I don't know if we've ever discussed it but do you have a degree? Providing you do have a college degree would it take a lot to get a teaching certificate? Here in NE, as of a few years back one didn't need a teaching cert. to be a sub if they were subbing in their education background. (sorry, I can't think of a better way to put it.) Like someone with a degree in math, even if he doesn't have a teaching cert. could sub in math.

I have a degree in communications, with a minor in English. It would take a bit for me to get my teaching certificate. Because it's been so long (17 years) I would need to meet several new graduation requirements plus the education stuff. Who knows, once Brian is done with his schooling, maybe I'll look into it. Got to go and get Zoe out of the tub. Blessings, Garsy

Thanks for the update Garsy, and for the links Roberta and Kath. I hope all is well now. Edit: I just saw the above post; hopefully the ER can give some good answers. Here you can sub without a teaching degree. I'm not sure of the requirements; I think you may just need a two year degree. One more day of swimming lessons. Maybe I'll be able to get something done next week; getting to lessons breaks up my day and I lose motivation. Although it doesn't take much for that. Dee

Praying, Garsy and Brian. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did something that is going to make J very ticked off today. Hehe...and I'm not sorry. There is nothing she can do about it. Nick's last name was legally changed 5 years ago, by court order because she agreed to do it and then "changed her mind". His birth certificate and SS card were changed immediately (we did both...she just had to sign once for his BC). His legal name has been on all his school records. BUT...we just found out that his medical records never got changed. His Ritalin has not had his legal name on it and the school has still given it to him, but we thought is just hadn't been changed at the PHARMACY. Come to find out, none of his medical stuff had been changed...because we don't take him to the doctor since she has him during the week. So we never knew. But now we do, and I took our whole "Nicolas" binder of legal papers into the office today. I could tell the secretary was a bit nervous to change it without at least Brian there, but when I said the magic "controlled substance...not his legal name...COURT ORDER 5 years ago"...she changed her tune quickly. She pulled his chart and changed it in front of me and also did the computer with me standing there. She copied several papers I had proving it and put them in the chart too. Then I went to the pharmacy and had them change it too. That wasn't so hard because I am well known there and the pharmacy tech is someone Brian and I worked with in high school. So next time J goes to get his Ritalin...she's going to find out that WE changed it because she wouldn't. It seriously took less than 5 minutes per place, and I'm sure the reason she hadn't done it was to have her little control issues placated. Whatever. We have a court order and it should have been done 5 years ago, so there is nothing she can do about it. We probably could have taken her to court on contempt of court, but Brian wouldn't, so this is the next best thing. Now I just wish I could be a fly on the wall when she discovers it...
