ORIGINAL: reach I still keep gaining, so I am going to do low carb for the next month. I start on Sunday, as Sat we have dinner with some friends. I am going to do the low carb until I go camping in 4 weeks. That will be my time off. :) But I am so active camping, that I lose weight there too. It is very hard though. I do so well all day, then blow it every night. So I am going to take the snacks out of the house. If it is not there, then I won't blow it. My other thing is, why am I so hungry all the time when I eat healthy. I am hungry all the time. I eat my salad, I am starving almost as soon as I am done. But if I have some carbs, I feel fuller. Sometimes when you think you're hungry, you're thirsty. How much water are you drinking? You also really could just not be eating enough. If you're still hungry after the salad - make a bigger salad. Doubling the greens and adding a protein source to the salad would make it a lot more filling.

I drink at least 4 liters a day. 2 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, and then one in the evening is if I run. If I don't run, then a lot of times I won't drink a whole liter at night, as I hate waking up to go pee. My salad is quite big. My bowl is 7 inches wide & about 4 inches deep. I add a lot of stuff to the salad. I think with the beans and cheese that it should be filling. I do drink 1/2 soda in the morning and 1/2 at lunch. I think I am eating about 1000-1200 calories during the day and then 300-500 at night.

I don't see anything glaring that's missing unless you wanted to try to add a little GOOD fat in there in the evening - olive oil, almonds, or even a spoon of peanut butter. A few almonds might be good if you get in a real bind and feel hungry after that salad. Sometimes I just have to suck it up when I know there's no good reason to be hungry. One thing that sometimes kills my appetite (to the point that I have to go make myself eat a few hours later) is a cup of hot tea (with splenda). Worth a try.

I am getting into drinking iced tea at work. They have free soda, so I need to do something else. So I have been trying to sub iced tea for the soda.

Yolanda suggested that I download the podcasts connected with the c25k program. I went to have a look for myself, and I can see why she recommended them. The only problem is that I don't have anything to download them to except my computer and I definitely can't run or walk with that. The think I LOVED about the podcast is that he tells you when it's time to switch from run to walk and vice versa. It would just be very convient to have that telling me than to be looking at the watch all the time. Do any of you find it very difficult to keep up your running/walking on this program because you are watching the time so much? I am trying to find a good watch in our house that keeps seconds, but honestly, I don't have any great watches for that...

Do you have a cell phone that lets you play music? Some people use their cell phones and run with them (in the right case of course) I have a nano. There are some cheaper no name mp3 players you could get though. The 1gb shuffle has been marked down to 49. (I think you can set it not to shuffle). Unfortunately the athletic watches that you can program your workouts into (like polar and garmin) cost a lot. But a lot of people prefer working out to music and there are a lot of workout podcasts now so it might worth it to get an mp3 player.

You can get a cheapo 1 gig mp3 player for under $50 if you catch the right deal. Maybe check craigslist for one that someone is looking to sell for cheap. I'm on the lookout for one for DH. It is 1000000X easier to do the c25K with cues that tell you when to walk/run. We went to the gym today, but as soon as DH got on the treadmill he said it felt like he pulled something and he was done. He limped for a little bit but seems ok now. We're considering buying a treadmill (to cancel the gym membership) and on the lookout for a good deal on craigslist. Anything in particular we should be aiming for?

I read this whole thread last night.........then went to iTunes and downloaded the C25K podcast. The music sounds great. My only hesistancy is this: I need to lose 100 pounds. How many of the ladies on this thread are as overweight as I am and challenging the C25K? I actually have no aspirations of running a 5K. LOL.........But beginning mid July I will have access to a gym, free of charge as an employment perk. So, I plan to go two mornings a week to work out there. I'll have to figure in the third one on my own. My work sites are all closed on Fridays. Nutrition? Well........... going back to what I know: Whole foods, lower fat (good fats: olive oil, avocadoes, rapeseed), lower carb/complex carb, lean proteins, increased veggies and moderate fruits. The food changes start when we get back from Vacation the second week of July. The exercise......shortly after that. (BTW........not procrastinating... I've already started walking after supper some nights. Gotta wait on the food changes until I can shop for groceries)

Oh yeah...me too. Over 100 lbs to lose, actually... I know what you mean about amusement park rides. I actually went to one a few years ago and the belt wouldn't latch over me and my friend...so I had to get off. How embarrassing is that!

That's probably the biggest reason why I'm trying so hard to lose weight (the not being able to do things you WANT to do...ie: amusement parks, airplane rides, movie theaters...although most allow you to move the armrest out of the way now). And I have well over 100 pounds to lose to be considered at a good weight (not overweight or underweight). If I can do the Couch to 5K...then ANYONE can. I start Week 5 tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how I do on Friday (that's the 20 minute run sandwiched between the warm up and cool down...which is kind of the "first" run...if that makes sense). I'm encouraged by my progress with running thus far though. Was watching the 10,000 M (so 10K?) women's Olympic trials the other night and I was definitely inspired (at least that's what I *think* it was). Don't think I'll ever do that though...is hard to say though...so I won't say I'll never do that. Now if my scale would just start showing some results I would be happier with my progress. Keep it up ladies. You CAN do this!!!

Hillary, if you have a portable CD player you could use that, they are also cheaper then an MP3 player. You would just need to burn the podcasts to a CD(could probably fit all 9 weeks on one CD) and then use the CD player.

Yup, I did a run today and I'll do another tomorrow. The weeks that Micah works night I'll end up using the treadmill and I'm thinking it will be easier to use the one my MIL has then to try and figure out how to work it into our usual "before Micah goes to bed" schedule in the morning. I don't really want to sacrifice any of our precious little time together.

I can't do running, unfortunately, as it puts too much pressure on my already weakened ankles.

I'll repost the question since it might have been missed: DH and I are considering buying a treadmill, most likely used from craigslist. Is there anything in particular we should be looking for, or anything we should know. I've been trying to read reviews online. ETA- I have a Sandisk mp3 player and it has been good and reliable for me. I think, though, that the Sandisk Clip (the one landabee linked to) has an internal battery that isn't replaceable. I much prefer the AAA's that I use in mine then toss when they die. I have one similar to this (that's an amazing price by the way), and would definitely buy another (as a matter of fact, that could be perfect for DH).

I like the treadmills at the gym on base... They have fans built in Heh...I wish we could get one like they have at our gym...I think the brand is Life Fitness and when I priced them out they start at about $3K.

Thanks for the advice ladies...and the great deals. I would love to take one of them, but if you read the sahm thread, you will see that I have no money at the present, due to a mistake made to my checking account by a company...not my fault, but I am suffering a lot from it... Anyway, I tried to record the podcast on to my phone tonight...didn't work well...the sound is barely audible, and his voice even less audible. So, I will go out tomorrow, and do a trial at least with my phone and a watch with digital seconds on it... So, we'll see how that goes. Maybe by the next couple of weeks the problem with the bank will be resolved and I'll be able to buy something to help. Thanks again for all the links and suggestions.

But it just occured to me that we ran into some friends at Costco who were picking up treadmills for their shop. They're bodybuilders who own a supplement shop and have a cool little gym set up in the back where they train their clients. They would only buy good ones. No idea what they spent just that they found what they were looking for at Costco.
