The good ones built for running start at 1k. I know it seems like a lot but they have the right horsepower and cushioning. I almost got one with my tax refund. You want a lifetime warranty on the motor. I almost bought one of the horizon fitness ones.

Costco does sell the "commercial" grade treadmills, but they are overstock items and discontinued items, so they don't always have them. Plus you probably have to pick it up yourself from costco. Well some of the treadmill boxes are 300 pounds so you might to buy from somewhere that delivers.. you don't want to order one and have it delivered via ups unless you are home to get it and carry the boxes in.

I've done enough looking to know that the good ones are out of our price range new, which is why we're looking at craigslist (not sure if the warranty would carry over). We don't have a costco membership, otherwise I'd consider going to look around.

That does look like an amazing price, Stacy. Esp considering the case is like $10, LOL and you're not paying much more than that for the MP3 player!!! Hmmmm.....I guess I'm off to look at the finances to see if I can squeeze one in. We're putting down our deposit for the new house today.

I currently run inside the house, so I just listen to the downloads on the computer speakers; however, I won't be able to do that when we're moving. Yes, I'm already planning out how I am going to work out while moving. I am planning to work out on Wednesday morning before we leave (but the net will be disconnected on Tuesday once we turn in the modem). Friday morning I'll be at my dad's house, so I may just go run in the country! (It'll be week 9 by then...might be fun ) So I'll need something to listen to by then...unless I decide to just wing it & honestly I don't know if I'll be motivated enough to work out without listening to music.

For those keeping up....I just finished day 1 of Week 5 of C25K. It wasn't bad...and I feel MUCH better now than when I started. I woke up in a really crabby mood this morning.

You can get a day pass at the membership desk to "look around", then if they have what you like you could join. It would probably be worth the $40 if they do have a treadmill.

The sears nordic track ones aren't that bad either according to the reviews. They are a little less.

I ordered one for DH, too. I think the reason they're so cheap is because they're discontinuing them- I've never had a problem with mine though (and I think its since been discontinued). If I read the amazon description right, it comes with an armband, which means you don't even necessarily need a case. I don't have one for mine- I either put it in the cupholder on the treadmill or tuck it into the waistband of my shorts. I get bored WAY too quickly if I try to exercise without music.

We have a norditrack at home. We bought it from a friend for $300. We were totally blessed. I like it. I just broke down after about 1 1/2 years. I run 3x's a weeks and my husband uses it 2-3 times a week. Plus it was owned before us, so I am not sure how much it would be to repair. I did have a hard time finding a place to fix it.

Well, run #3 under my belt, and it's definitely getting easier. Are you ladies remembering to tighten your abs while you run? It will help build core strength... I only remember because my belly needs it's own sports bra

I did run #3 of week 2. You have no idea how much easier it is to run when the air isn't smokey. I didn't realize how much that was affecting my breathing. I was still really tired when I got back today (and am a bit sick), but the breathing was easier today.

I'm tired of tryiing to carry my ipod on my runs. since the only thing I'm listening to is teh podrunner podcast, I think I might get a shuffle just for running. it'll be lighter and easier and won't fight with my headphones so much. AND ... I don't have to worry about forgetting it at work some day. ;) I'm tried the various cases and such and just can't find one I like. I think the full ipods are just too heavy to run with.

Hey! I've been hesitant to post here, since my goal is not losing weight as much as it is getting back into shape. But reading everyone else's comments, I see that is a shared goal, so I'd like to join this group!

To answer the questions from the OP...

What is your ultimate goal for your body? To be in shape! To be able to run a 5K by the end of the summer without feeling like I'm about to collapse. We'll see how I feel once I get there, if I'll go for 10K or just be content. I'm right where I want to be with my weight, but I want my overall energy to be better.

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one? My husband and I have started doing the C25K together. We're on week three. I've also been riding a stationary bike for about thirty minutes in the evenings. We take Sundays as a day of rest from exercise.

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by? The end of the summer is my goal for the 5K. But like I said earlier, I might like to set new goals after that. Or just make my goal actually STAYING in shape, which might be the most difficult goal I could set!

If you aren't able to start working out now (pregnant mommas!! ) when do you intend to start reaching your goal? I'm not a pregnant momma. But I was at this time in 2006 and again at this time in 2007. So I applaud you mommies who are already making plans to get back in shape after your babies arrive!

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself? Just to be consistent and run six days a week, getting better and faster with each run.

Yay! So excited to hear about everyone's progress!

I didn't get run #3 done today. Bad, bad day. Very stressful and just didn't have time.
Tomorrow for sure, and then I'll do another fun on wed to change my schedule still
Bad bad day. Bad days are dumb.

Jen- nice to see you here! I don't have a weight loss goal either. Just trying to get in better shape. I think my ultimate, ULTIMATE goal would be able to run a 1/2 (or maybe full) marathon just to be able to say I did it.
I SO want to be able to run, but don't want to drive to the gym by myself (DH's leg is still sore). That's part of the reason we're looking so hard for a treadmill within our budget. Our house doesn't really have anywhere that makes a good track, and its 9pm and still 106* outside.

How far away is the gym? A treadmill would certainly be nice... I hear ya on the heat, it's somewhat like that here although we seem to be more of a true dessert in that the temp drops once it gets dark.

Not ALL carbs are bad!!! Go for the ones that are more fiber...or are made from whole grain and you'll have more success (at least that's been my experience).

Eating bad carbs (ie: sugar and white flour items) tend to make me hungrier. Cereal is one food that no matter how much I eat of it...I'm still starving and then will overeat later. So I rarely eat it!

I completed Week 4 of the Couch to 5K today. So, I don't think I'm doing too bad with it. Sandy and Ryanne...have fun starting it next week. Stacy, how is week 1 going for you? Kat and Yolanda, aren't you doing the C25K as well? Hope y'all are able to keep on track with it.

Down a couple of pounds...we'll see if it stays that way. I guess I just tend to see a LOT of fluctuation there....I know...I need to measure....that requires buying a measuring device though...so will probably do that.

Also, I want to get a pedometer. Do you ladies have a good recommendation for one?

Yup, doin the C25K too, my neighbour is doing it with me as well, and we have been taking things a little slower, we are both quite out of shape, so we're still on week 2. Our problem for both of us is getting out to do the run 3 times a week. We've mostly only been doing it 2 times a week. So this past week, we ran twice and then had an agreement that over the weekend we would at least for for a walk. So while we were camping, we did lots of walking. Hopefully we'll get back on track tonight or tomorrow.

Reach, I'm the same way with salad. I could eat a giant salad and still want something else. It's the same with fish. When I have fish for supper, I could eat supper again an hour later.

The gym is about 15 min each way, which isn't bad, but isn't great either. Our membership is up for renewal in September, so I figure we have until then to find a treadmill. That's about 95% of what we use the gym for at this point.
The temperature USED to drop at night here, but now there's too much concrete holding in the heat all night.

So, I didn't officially start the c25k this morning as expected. My ds was up last night vomiting, and so I didn't get a very restful sleep and didn't feel like getting up early enough to get my walk/jog in before hubby left for work. BUT the family did a great LONG walk last night, so I figured that had to count for something. I have also been eating better...more salads, more water, etc...so I stepped on the scales this morning to see it 2 lbs less. It has been a week since I've started changing my diet, so I supposed that I met my goal of 2 lbs per week... Woo hoo! Very glad to see some progress...slow but steady...

Maybe you could invest in bikes too. A 15 mile bike ride and back would be great instead of the gym.

So .... I got on the scale this morning because, frankly, I wanted to see how badly I've been doing with my temporary "maintenance mode" goal. After all, I've been eating out more, I've been eating more beef, more ham, more steak, more cheese, more sunflower seeds and nuts .... and less .... ummm... veggies (just a bit!) And I wanted to see how I was doing since (fingers crossed) my wonderful DH may be coming home very soon.... and I wanted to have made progress since he left, ya know?

Anyway, my July 1st weigh-in shows my lowest weight ever (by a hair, but it still counts, right?) .... exactly 101 pounds lost! (And 5.6 pounds lost for the very merry month of June .... and 14.6 pounds since my wonderful DH left for his deployment a couple of months ago!!!!)

That's wonderful, Harvie!! I'm so proud of you! And it's OK to eat a few less vegggies when you are eating 15 servings a day!!

way to go Harvie!

I didn't get my run done last night. I didn't drink enough water and as soon as I got on the treadmill, I was gassy and had bad muscle cramps. So I called it quits.
Will drink LOTS of water today, so I can get my run done tonight

I ran Day 2 of Week 5 today. The workouts seem to be getting harder, but that's to be expected. I can't believe I ran for 16 minutes (with a 5 minute walk in between). Wow! Granted, I'm probably only running about 2K in that time (not a fast runner)...but I'm moving!!!

The scale held steady today...so I am thankful for that. Hopefully I'll begin to see a loss soon
