The book I have says that the best rice choices are Basmati, Wild, Brown, or long-grain. All of them contain a certain starch that breaks down more slowly than other rices which makes them lower on the glycemic index. It doesn't really say if it's whole grain or not.

This might be off topic here...so...if so...send me a PM...but where do y'all buy your bismati brown rice? I found a 10 pound bag online for just under $20. Just wasn't sure where the best place was to buy it....

I didn't see it before either. I will check again. I've bought the frozen packets (organic precooked brown rice) for quick meals. Not bad.

I was having way too much fun with the "map my route" option on Google Maps last night. If I did it right, the day I went running outside I did about a mile and a half- not bad. If you have any oriental grocery stores around, often they have lots of different varieties of rice, and it can be cheaper than at the health food store.

I'm pretty sure we have oriental stores around here. At least I think so....lol. I'll have to look it up on yellow pages. Still haven't ran today. DH took the last of the cold water...so I need to go refill a bottle BEFORE I do my run.

I buy the Texas Brown Basmati in the square plastic jar at the grocery store. With just the two of us eating very few grains (we eat mostly meats and green veggies,) it takes a while to go through that. I've tried other brands in bags, but can't seem to find any that aren't buggy. But this week, I found a huge plastic square container of brown basmati rice at CostCo!! I was really excited to see it, because most of their foods (down the aisles) are junky. I skated this morning and did well on eating. We're set to go out tonight, but I'm hoping to avoid any major bad carbs. I may splurge and have a seafood au gratin as my entree, which will be high in fat from the cheese and butter, but not as high in carbs (depending on how they thicken it.) But I've been good at meals so far, so this should fit OK into a healthy over all day.

We've never had a problem with rice going buggy, and we buy 25 lbs at a time and store until its all used up. My mom used to throw a container of dry rice in the microwave for 5-10 minutes to stop it from going buggy.

I've been struggling with overeating the past few days. I keep eating lots of carbs and sweets, resulting in slight weight gains. I did get 50 minutes of gardening done and will do more today, but I hope that I won't go off my healthy eating plan as bad today. Please pray for me to develop self-control in this area. Thank you.

I feel ya. ((((((((((MyCatSmokey)))))))))) I have days when I swear I must have a carbohydrate magnet in the back of my mouth. I wish I knew why sometimes my willpower is lacking. I will pray for you as my sister taught me to pray for myself: Lord, we wish to please You and honor You in all areas of our lives. Help us to bring this struggle under submission in the name of Jesus. Help us Lord to replace this craving with a deeper craving for a firmer foundation and a more intimate relationship with You. We thank you for helping us to be overcomers in this struggle. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

I find that sometimes what I crave is tied to my emotions- carbs for me are comfort foods. If I can work off or deal with the stress/anxiety another way, the carb craving seems to be more controllable. Anyone else find that they're more edgy/irritable on days when they don't work out? My hubby threatened to send me outside for a run today because I've been on edge all day.

I am the same way, Stacy. My mom used to call my running shoes my "angry shoes".

I would love to try kickboxing, but I"m not sure I'm coordinated enough. Same goes for pilates, which I've also had trouble with. I can hardly tell my right from my left.

Try beginner's Tae Bo. Great workout, and they take it slower at first so that you can get yourself coordinated. Even when you're not coordinated! I started week 5 of the C25K tonight, pushing that double stroller. It wasn't easy, but I can tell that these past weeks have made a difference in my endurance. Yay! DH and I both lost 5 pounds last week. Press on, ladies!

Grr...went to the gym today, no empty treadmills. We left to go grocery shopping (store is 5 minutes away), and came back 1/2 hour later...STILL no open treadmills!

That stinks, Stacy. Guess everyone else wanted to get their workouts in too? That's crazy though!!! Are you going to try again today then? Day 1 of Week 7 done...I can't believe I've stuck with this this long....but I'm pretty sure it will stick even once I'm done with the 9 weeks because of the way I enjoy it. Weird...I always used to HATE running....
