ORIGINAL: LBolt I still have some blinders. Don't we all. Wow. And regarding your comments about the L-rd loving you when you did not keep the feasts, etc., this really astounds me. I was in a cult, for good night -- a cult for which I have no gratitude or love. Yet while I was a member, the L-rd still did some wonderful things in my life. Sitting here thinking about some of those, I am so grateful! He is gracious beyond measure and works with us, using what we have, to bring us to what we need. As we used to sing in a little chorus there, "What a mighty G-d we serve!" quote:
ORIGINAL: drussell52 Abiyah thank your husband for his example, i.e. changing tire on your car Here's the BAD thing about it: I forgot that we have coverage for such things. I could have called a tow and had it done, not bothering my poor husband. [&:] I forgot we had that coverage. [:@] I hope you do find a trustworthy teacher, Drussell. Some of the ones among us are really "out there," just as there are some who are "really out there" in the churches. Wow, we are not immune! But we are such a far smaller group than the churches, the ones who are "off" seem more accessible. But bluntly, I have been turned off some uses of hallelujah. Its use in commercials is unacceptable to me. Its use as an expletive is totally unacceptable. I would not hesitate to use it, however, as praise to G-d. I think he is off the wall to claim that it is "an errant representation of God and borders blasphemy." While it can be used that way, this does not taint the word; bad use taints the speaker. quote:
ORIGINAL: wshepherd What did everyone do for Shavuot? Unnnnhhhhhh. What did I do? Well, I worked all day Sunday getting my camper ready to take to the shul, cleaning it inside from top to bottom, shampooing the carpet, scrubbing everything. I had bought the camper a couple years or so ago, used. It's not new, it's not luxury; it is just a five-sleeper class C RV that we take camping a few times each year and that I take to the shul for various reasons. So I had told one friend I was bringing it when she mentioned that she probably would not survive the night withont needing to lie down, then I bought all brand-new bedding for the read bedroom of the camper: mattress topper, mattress cover, sheet set, down-like blanket, down-like cover -- all in bright, shining white -- and two blue throw-pillows. I had about five minutes more work to do when my husband mentioned that the auxilliary battery was not up to snuff. He tried charging it with his van but was not satisfied. He brought my car out and retried. Nothing. So he got in the camper to start it, and . . . nothing. The starter was dead. What did I do for Shavuot? nOthInG. I was stuck at home. No feast at the shul, no all-night study, no nothing. Everybody, all together: WEEP! Well, I can joke about it now, but Sunday, it was pretty disappointing. [:@]
