It was Full, The 14th of a biblical month is always the opposite of the renewed moon.

The first day of the month is designated by the "new moon."
The 14/15 then falls on a "full moon." As does Sukkot.

Leviticus 23:34
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this
seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days
unto the LORD. (KJV)

Hi Fritz, cannot tell you what phase the moon was in but can suggest check chabad.org which may have that archived, as they also post a weekly time for Shabbat beginning and ending, or if the First Fruits of Zion web site has their E-rosh archived, it would be per month, www.ffoz.org. Shalom..

Just to add a little to the great information you have already been given, the monthly calendar is invariably a lunar calendar. Initially, the first day of a month has always begun in the evening on the day the new moon was confirmed. Later, as a basic pattern was confirmed, while they still began the month by a witness who confirmed the new moon, they made a written calendar. Now, most people go by the written calendar.

However, as obviously would have happened when the months are based upon the moon, the seasons began to shift into months they could not be in. As a result, an additional month, Adar II, is added in order to reset the months into their proper times, in order to make sure that the holy days are in their correct yearly times.

But no matter what, since the months were always determined by the moon, the new moon was the 1st, and the full moon is always in the middle of the month.

There's a lot more about the calendar -- more than you would even want to know! [:D]! There are full-size books on the subject!

Apparently there is a custom or tradition I haven't heard of yet.

Speaking about the Talmud above, is this a tradition born from the rabbinical
school? I was joking this morning in study that if we took on this practice, we
couldn't explain it before baptism for they wouldn't want to be baptized, and
when we explained it afterwards, the baptizee would probably be angry.

It's a novel idea any way. The temptation is there to try it. lol.
Hold them down until they're about to drown to symbolize a real death unto
the flesh. lol.

I think Yeshua and Paul did. Much of what they say makes more sense when viewed in light of Talmudic tradition. Look at Paul's reference to Janus and Jambrees. That is not recorded anywhere else in the Scriptures. As long as it is viewed as commentary or historical backgrouind, I see no problem with using those resources.

Reminds me of the old joke about the pastor who dipped thrice (when was the last time you heard or read that wird -- thrice?) Anyway, she came up the first time and shouted, "I believe!" He dunked her again, and again, she came up shouting, "I believe!" And when she came up the third time, she shouted, "I believe you're trying to drown me, you scoundrel!"

But regarding the quote above: where did you read that? Did I somehow miss it here? I really am not prepared to believe it. [:D] I have never seen that before -- not that I have read it all, but it just doesn't strike me s correct. (Forgive me, whomever originally wrote it here!)

It was in the "Power New Testament"

The forward said it was advised and contributed to
by a number of rabbis and friends. I'd never heard
of it before either, so I was wondering if it was something

My girlfriend has a necklace like that. I believe her husband bought it for her from one of the local jewelry stores. It is a Star of David, with the cross in the center of it. Quite pretty.

Well, shalom to you, Lap! [:)]

So, when all of you attend services tonight and/or tomorrow, what do you expect? What do you most look forward to? What will it be like where you worship publicly?

Just to start, I will answer my own questions.
We don't have services on Friday evenings, because we reserve that time for the family. Not a religious statement -- just what we do here.

Tomorrow, I will show up at services just before 10:30 am. Lots of people to greet, chat with, etc. Then service begins with congregational singing. Accompanying us will be keyboard, two or three guitars, drums, and bongos -- usually -- along with the music leader on his various instruments, usually trumpet, flugelhorn, or something similar. The worship team is usually either four or three persons. And the rest of us join in. I love the music.

Following this is the liturgy, which we all pray from the same siddur. There are various such activities included in the liturgy as (especially) the Sh'ma, praying for the sick, etc.

But the main thing I look forward to is the teaching. In fact, when I first started going, I would skip all the other parts and just show up for the teaching. This is followed by more liturgy, including blessing G-d with those who have lost loved ones.

Most stay for lunch afterward, and activities continue all day, including more teaching.

I look forward to Sabbath more than any other such activities, and the great part of that is we only have to wait six days for it! Yes! A weekly gift!! Bless the L-rd, He gives us the best 52 times a year!!

It is the best time of the week.
And it causes me to acknowledge and recognize
One and Only True Creator. Even when we swim
in the pool, I sometimes get to join the kids, I go
over the creation with them pointing to the clouds,
birds, animals, trees, etc. I like to carry Sabbath
with me every day.

We quit having Friday night meetings.
So, we meet about 9:30 am and visit.
Then we have a class at 10:00 am.
Right now, we're still watching DVD's on the Feasts of Yhvh.

Then we take a break, sing some songs.
Then, right now, I'm breaking down the book of Hebrews
verse by verse. We're in chapter ten right now. I've been
working on chapter eleven, it's hard to keep it to a minimum
so I don't go over every one's heads. (i.e. "bore them") lol.

Then we can either go home which some do.
Or, they hang around to visit more. Since I'm the pastor it's
hard for me to just leave. lol. Sometimes I'd like to head right
out the door and hit the Sabbath Couch.

The last few weeks we've had visitors that want to argue the
Sacred Name Only arguments. lol. The first batch of SNO's
have left, but this group is hanging around. They seem to be
able to love and fellowship without agreeing on ever jot and
tittle. But they do seem to be on a SNO mission. LOL.
