BugLady -> "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 1:01:40 AM)

...I've looked at her and said, I love this woman."

You know that eHarmony ad that often appears at the top of the page? Todd and Dawn. The deliriously happy looking couple matched on 7/24/2003 and married on 9/19/2004? Do you think it's time for a new couple for that ad? (No offense Todd and Dawn)

If you were matched, like they were, would you allow your image to be used for an ad? Do you think they get royalties or something?

woodwind228 -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 1:02:42 AM)

What if they're divorced now?? Yikes!

BugLady -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 1:10:08 AM)

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. That would not be good for advertising. I hope they are still together. In fact, I hope they aren't just a fake couple that looks happy for the ad.

Holybattleaxe -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 2:36:43 AM)

Yea r they would be lying wouldn't they???

I often think that if it worked so well, they'd have lots and lots of couples to show and there'd be more recent ones. But, well, that might just be me practicing to be a cynic.[;)]

You know, it would depend. If it was something that I really, really believed in and really, truly believed would help other people, I probably would let them use me in an ad. I can actually think of one organization that I would be part of an ad for, they were that good and that life-altering. As to royalties, I dunno how that works. They probably got paid something, I'd think.

Pauley464 -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 10:53:16 AM)

I'm a cynic. I believe everybody like that in ads and commercials are paid actors who never met each other until they arrived at the photo shoot or tv studio.
It's the same for all of those commercials on tv touting work at home jobs where you can earn $5000 a week with just 20 minutes a day and access to a computer. "Last week we earned $5000 and now we are living in our dream home." PUHLEEZE!!

Single4Life -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 11:00:43 AM)

My guess would be that these people are paid actors. Why do up another ad b/c that would mean spending more $$$?! Maybe when subscriptions start to drop, they'll come up w/ another campaign.

Me too! I keep waiting for a new batch of couples, or at least an update with the one's pictured.

woodwind228 -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 11:31:08 AM)

I wonder if it ever occured to them to change out photos as part of their marketing plan. Seems logical enough that people would have this very same conversation eventually.

BugLady -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 12:02:57 PM)

It does seem logical, doesn't it? [:)]

rcudawg -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 12:19:08 PM)

What amuses me is that whenever my subscription would be getting ready to run out, or when I was on the "not paying, can only see how many 'hook-ups' that I have,' I would get all sorts of 'matches. However, if I was actively paying and searching, I would only get a few hear or there.

One friend of mine once wondered aloud, "I wonder how many paid 'actors' there are that actually get 'matched' with someone from time to time so that someone things that they have a legitimate match so that they continue to pay or start paying. Yet, only to get dumped after a while because the 'actor' doesn't think that their relationship will go anywhere....

Just some thoughts...

there are a variety of eHarmony ads. i believe it's CW's choice to display that one so much.

That's a possibility indeed. It seems I've seen this one the most, though. There was another one with a couple dancing across the top of the page that I haven't seen for awhile. I forget their names. I'm just wondering now how effective the marketing really is.

(I'm pretty sure you can stop practicing[:D])

I'm pretty certain that every couple they use are paid actors. I mean, do you ever see normal people in the ads? All of them (that I remember) are younger (looking), in good shape, full heads of hair, good skin, perfect smiles etc.

Who is the cynic now, John? [;)] Plenty of people look like the people in the ads. They look normal to me.

sunshinesoprano -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 12:51:05 PM)

Well, I did eHarmony one time. Had a handful of matches. Went into open communication with one and we talked for a while. Then I think his wife found out and he disappeared....I thought he'd died or something!!!!

My friend met her new husband on eHarmony and the children's minister at our church met her fiancee' there.

It must work, but I know I don't think it'll work for me.

People see my picture and they run.

Aww, sunshine. You don't know that. Don't say things like that about yourself.

Many people do that when they see my picture. In fact, there's one that's still running, although she's running after me. [8D]

Seriously, though... Although it may work for some people, it's not what God uses for all people. And, I doubt that all of the couples are the ones that God has called to be together (or prefers to be together because of His plans for them). But, that's between them and God.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Sunshine... A lot of photos do not do people justice. And, there's more to a person than their looks.. Just look at me.. (Thinks: Ahhhh... Did I just say that?!)

God made us the way that we are for a reason. I don't understand my receding hairline, but I guess God has a reason for it. I don't understand the extra spaces between some of my top teeth, but I guess God has a reason... I don't understand a lot of things about myself, but I'm trusting God to know the 'what fores' and the 'how comes.'

In Christ,

RC

middle of the road comparitively ... it's dating ... which is kinda hard to screw up so it's decent

BugLady -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 2:10:22 PM)

What do you mean it's kinda hard to screw up? I don't really see it as dating. It can lead to dating, but it's not dating, ya know? It feels more like applying for a job. That's not dating. Well, at least not for normal people.

CoachSteve -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 2:16:29 PM)

I actually met the woman I just screwed up with on eharmony. we dated for 14 months. just broke up for good last night. it did work for me. we had so much in common, and talked all the time, but I couldn't get it through my thick skull that she was the one until it was too late. now I am having to start over again.

i was answering the marketing part of your question ... in terms of effectiveness of their ads ... which could be measured in several metrics such as click-thru (click on ad) or conversion (how many sign up) rates ... dating sites are very popular nowadays ... thus hard to mess up advertising for one :)

BugLady -> RE: "I can't say how many times... (6/5/2008 2:26:54 PM)

Oh, I get it now. [:)] They are effective in selling what they've got, but what they sell doesn't always work.

Aww, thanks rc.

I think I'd do better if I didn't put my pic on the site, though....[;)]
