Nashville Star is coming to NBC this coming Monday. Anyone plan to watch it?

Miss Giggles -> RE: Nashville Star (6/6/2008 8:59:35 AM)

I probably will. last time I watched it it was on USA.

It's a two hour premiere, right? If that's the case, I'll DVR it, since I normally go to bed early. I've had to do that the last couple seasons, since it came on at 10.

I watched the first hour. It was ok.

I really don't consider Jewel country though. They have changed the show and are focusing on the "newer country style", whereas the original season did both old and new.

So her little fake fight with John Rich was somewhat amusing.

Decided to watch this, never seen it before. Judges are a bit tough - the country version of Simon! Don't think I would have picked the one they voted off, but then again for his very first performance, that was a bit assuming. Same thing w/ the girl they chose, I figure she will be gone next week. Many of the others are really good. Of course, I think they saved the best one for last. She's got a very good shot at taking the whole thing.

I'm from Brad Cotter's home town. He's really had a hard time w/ record deals since he won, just like some of the AI winners. I'm wondering if having more exposure on a major network will help the winner this year. kd

i'm going to watch Nashville Star and kind of did i watched it last time i think.

Most of the Nashville Star winners usually have trouble getting the exposure such as given by American Idol. The winners from Nashville Star you really never hear from again. I believe that Buddy Jewel has been the most successful one from this show.

Miranda Lamberts not doing bad, but I think she was a runner up.

#3 from the first season. She's been the most successful, but I think it has more to do with the cable vs. broadcast exposure.

my personal opinion is that country music has gone way into the marketing of a star than actual talent.

They are only promoting the younger acts and a lot of the older acts are barely getting played

this is why they are focusing so much on carrie and miranda and taylor swift. Older women around 40 aren't getting the media attention. Faith Hill and Gretchen Wilson's careers are fading along with others.. with the exception of Reba and Dolly and the "superstars". I do think carrie is talented though, but Taylor's live performance wasn't that good. Even the djs on the radio station said the same thing.

Some of the guys too like Randy Travis, Vince Gill too.. same thing.. they aren't "new anymore"

debilyn -> RE: Nashville Star (7/1/2008 9:26:16 AM)

Okay, I'll have to say last night was the first time I actually liked Gabe's performance.

I'm so glad Melissa did well.

Tommy seems to be fading a little, bit by bit.

Shawn had a little bit of an attitude last night, which I haven't seen before.

The young girl groups are growing and improving week by week.

Sometimes the song choices make me go "huh?" But overall, this is a very interesting show. This is the first time I've ever watched it, but I like it better than Idol. (I know that will not be a popular statement.)

cinwood -> RE: Nashville Star (7/2/2008 9:40:27 AM)

I guess it's just me, but I think the show is waaaaaaaay too long. The "dramatic" pause between announcing that someone was voted off and actually telling who it is...it's ridiculous - not dramatic. And having back up dancers???? Give me a break.

I liked the show best during the first couple of seasons. I can't stand the judges the past couple of years, either. I guess the only thing I do like better this season is that duets & groups are allowed to compete.

Miss Giggles -> RE: Nashville Star (7/2/2008 9:59:04 AM)

yeah the first two seasons were much better.

wareaglekd -> RE: Nashville Star (7/2/2008 10:58:09 AM)

I'm watching & some are pretty good, but to me it just doesn't hold a candle to American Idol. I don't like John Rich & I could see him in a major argument w/ Simon & Simon would win.

I'm not impressed w/ Shaun or Coffey. I can't see them surviving for long. My faves are Pearl Heart & Melinda. Gabe is great, but just sounds too much like George Strait. He needs to really beef up some originality. kd

cinwood -> RE: Nashville Star (7/8/2008 9:32:55 AM)

I caught the end of it last night. I can't believe Pearl Heart didn't get voted thru. IMO, neither Coffey or the blond girl (I can't think of her name) are great singers. I didn't get to hear any others last night except Pearl Heart and they did a fantastic job. The judges seem to be favoring the blond girl; maybe because she seems like the most "marketable" one to them.

Sounds like they were already offered a deal to me, so they'll be back. k

You mean Pearl Heart? I missed most of the show...
