Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: How does your church replace the senior pastor? (6/28/2008 12:04:16 AM)

Where I work, when there is a vacancy, a letter, written by the church board, is sent to the local headquarters with an explanation of why there is a vacancy, what is needed, and what the accommodations are. The district has its own pool of seminary graduates and pastors who are interested in another position, but it can draw upon others from other areas as well. They send the church the names and qualifications of all those who are available. The board goes over the list, prays about them, and eventually selects candidates they think they would like. The candidate(s) come, with their families if at all possible, for a weekend at least. They meet with the board for a discussion, preach a sermon, and go home to pray while the board prays some more. When a candidate looks like one who will work out, they are invited back for another weekend at least, if they agree, and the same thing is done over again. If that candidate feels like s/he wishes to stay, a salary package is offered. They go back home to pray some more, and the board prays some more. The board then contacts the candidate by conference call, asks if they would like to come, and the decision is made regarding that candidate. Sometimes, the process starts all over at any point related here. _____________________________ Where I attend, we grow our leaders within our congregation, but we don't have senior pastors or a pastor -- just leaders and teachers.
