How many of you have gotten behind on your housework because you are too busy at work? I always get behind on my housework, and with 8 people in the house..it gets dirty. I mean the dishes get done and laundry gets done, but when do you have time to dust or vaccum. Any ideas?[&:]

Guilty

But is more procrastination than me being too busy, I really don't like housework and would rather be outside.

I had to come up with a schedule. (I live alone so it works out)
Monday = Bathrooms
Tuesday = Bedrooms
Wednesday = Living room // Dinning room
Thursday = Kitchen // Landry
Friday = Computer room

This is the "big" cleaning. Moving stuff to clean behind and such.
I still do the daily kitchen duties (dishes to the sink putting stuff away)
Mopping the floor, cleaning out the back cabinets ect waits till thurs.

With 8, maybe you could do a "cleaning day" once a week.

And a "spring cleaning" twice a year

P.S. You never "have" time. You Make time.

Call a houe cleaning company!
My friend & I have a house cleaning business. Our clients love the job that we do. we are pretty reasonable. I would suggest calling several house cleaning companies. Interview who will be cleaning to make sure you are comfortable with them.

I build a new house and make our family move every 3-5 years. [:D]
Also have cleaners come bi-weekly to keep the house within reason.

Your suppose to clean your house?

3tulips -> RE: cleaning the house (6/9/2008 5:40:40 PM)

I don't ever remember being ahead [:D]

I cleaned both bathrooms this weekend, washed the rugs, etc. Then I realized I never did the shower door [:@]

Umm . . . what are the other 7 people who live with you doing?

Figure out what needs to be done and divvy it up. A 3 year old can dust. There are 8 people in my house as well, and we can get the place reasonably clean inside of an hour when everyone pitches in.

Unless there are 8 adults who are all working, I would have a real hard time forking out the cash for a cleaning company. Hand out the dust cloths and get everyone off their butts!

You could divide up the daily chores between everyone in the family, and hire a housekeeper to come once a week or once every other week to take on some deep cleaning tasks for you--like deep cleaning all the bathrooms. If you have a job you are at every day, when you are home you probably want to spend time with your family. It's not a bad thing to hire someone if you need a little extra help.

I am so far behind it's not even funny. This past weekend I did manage to dig the sofa out of the pile of clean clothes (of course, that was only because the pile had gotten pretty small since it had been 3 weeks since I'd had time to do more than essentials)...long enough to remind myself what color it is before it was covered again with the next set. I have no ideas...there are only 2 of us and it's hard to imagine the place clean again. I've tried doing 15 minutes of "speed cleaning" with my son (age7) where we set the timer for 15 minutes and clean as fast as we can in one area. Only problem is, most days we don't have 15 minutes between when we get home and when I need to get him into bed.

I'd love to if I knew anyone who did that in this area. I've found a few business cards in places, but when I call the numbers are disconnected, or they only do commercial cleaning, or they require a minimum of 5 hours per week--my house isn't big enough to justify that, or I am too far for them to be willing/able to come.

Now this is one I can relate to...however, since Hur. Katrina, with all the extra stuff in the house from damaged/destroyed storage buildings...which have not yet been replaced since 1) I don't have time to build them myself and 2) If I could find anyone skilled enough to build it without me telling them were to put every nail, I couldn't afford to pay them.

Assign chores. With 8 people in the house there shouldn't be too many jobs that are left undone. It doesn't have to be perfect if the kids are still young but as soon as they learn how to pull out a toy, they can learn how to put it back. Break the jobs down so that they aren't so overwhelming.

That would be a halfway decent excuse.

But around here, it's pure laziness. And it drives me crazy.

Flylady is good!

When I worked in a group home there were anywhere from 6-12 kids per cottage and the set up for cleaning was each child had a job/area for a week and they did that job plus straighten their room every morning before leaving for school. Most jobs did not take more than 10 minutes to complete. Saturday was set up to handle the weekly jobs and took usually no more than an hour. Since the kids were old enough they also took care of their own laundry on their assigned day. Part of our job as a group home was teaching life skills and home organization was way up there on that list.
