So if I say, uh, hypothetically met someone online(not at a dating site, lol) and she only lives less than an hour away, and we both had a mutual intrest, how long should we wait to meet face to face? And give me some ideas of non-date-ish stuff to do with a single female.

Hey Violinist_for_Jesus,

In future postings, it'd be helpful for folks to know how long it's been that you two have been hypothetically corresponding with each other. I'm perhaps twice your age or less, so that doesn't make me an expert here, but I'd try something like this with the suggestion that each of your drive halfway to some neutral site and both bring a friend along (who are already dating and wouldn't, uh, somehow take a liking to a potential friend and steal him or her away. That would be really lame.

Things to do... stay away from movies because you can't talk in a theater. Go shopping for shoes? That could be hilarious if everyone gets a cheap pair of sneakers somewhere. Time of meeting is helpful here. If she's open to whatever you might hypothetically suggest, you might want to make it a daytime thing, where you can navigate away from the meet to hit the road back home. Definitely bring a friend along who's not going to sit there and analyze the whole experience on the way back.

I was thinking kind of along those lines, but I am confused as to how cheap sneakers would be funny? lol...Even if I was dating a girl, I'd stay away from movies...people go to moviees to make out, I hate most movies, and, you brought up a great point: How in the world can you get to know someone by not talking to them????

Zachary, I have a friend who met this girl online they had sent few emails and he asked me when was it right for them to hang out, well I said give it more time because they were still getting to know each other... so he continued few more emails and then asked her if she would like to hang out and all...she replied she wasnt yet ready that she wanted to know more...so she left her email with an question at the end...after that they sent many many emails to each other...and things are going well but they still have not hung out but it varies from person to person but one thing is important that you communicate and get to know each other some...some girls rather feel more comfortable with some one they know things about then a stranger that your just going meet and get to know.

the time to meet is really up to the two of you.

I've not seen anyone making out at the movies unless it was at a drive-in movie place... there's not too many of those places around any more.
Teens I know don't want to waste the bucks for a movie for two people and buy drinks and snacks - just to fool around during the movie... (when they usually do the fooling around in their cars or in someone's home.)

Non-dating things to do -

Walk around the mall, visit a museum or science center, theme park, to most people a guy and a girl going somewhere together is looked upon as they are on a date....

If you have a mutual interest that is say hiking, plan a hike with some friends and ask her if she'd like to join you and she is welcome to bring friends. That takes any pressure off and doesn't make it a "date". That would allow you to meet, get to know each other a little bit, see how the other relates with friends, and take it from there.

If your mutual interest is art, plan to meet at a museum. If it's gardens, plan to meet at a garden. If you like to play chess, plan to meet at Starbucks or some other local coffee place, and play a game of chess at an outdoor table.

Lots of options ... especially since there's a mutual interest. Use that as your basis.

several of my friends have said they've found long waiting can lead to imagination/fantasy filling in gaps of knowledge thus leading to disappointment upon meeting due to unrealistic expectations. when if they met much sooner, there would be known reality in that place instead. i've read things to that effect as well. obviously no one should meet someone if they aren't comfortable.

as for date idea ... maybe cause of your age, i'll throw out the mall as an idea? it's public place, you can walk around, grab a bite to eat in the food court, maybe have some fun with ddr or air hockey in the arcade, explore each other's music/reading tastes in music/book store, etc ...

This is so true...it happened to me...I'd say meeting just for a non casual meet not a date. Pick a public place perhaps an all you can eat resturant or to a mall...then the two of you can go from there...I would also ask what their interests of places are as well
