Is playing church bingo a sin? How about bingo at a casino? Donna

Kerrlaw -> RE: Bingo (6/9/2008 10:14:16 PM)

In my opinion, no.

Just 20 minutes ago I watched the episode of the Andy Griffith Show where new Deputy Warren Ferguson arrests all the ladies putting on the church bazaar for running a bingo game.

Maybe I should qualify my answer to say: not unless it violates the local law.

I would say it's one of those things that certainly isn't inherently sinful, but as with any gambling, it can become sinful if you let it control you.
As long as you can play it and still honestly say you're being a good steward of the financial resources God has placed in your care, then I would say no, it's not sinful.

I have played Bingo in a casino once I won $400 [:D]

I really did not have one. When you play Bingo in Vagas you don't have to do a thing. Everything is on a computer and it does everything for you. You can even change 'channels' to play computer games like Soiltaire (sp?) or watch a television show.

Ya, I felt it was ok as long as it was under control. Donna

I agree. :)

I look at bingo, car washes and bake sales as christians who do not believe tithes and offerings to be enough to fund the needs of the church.

If your church is in lack, then go to the bible, not the marketplace, for the funding.

Maybe your church needs to preach about money more.

Is bingo gambling? Yes, and so are raffles, but I cannot find definative Scripture to place gambling of any sort in a no no catagory.

While I agree that tithing is a good thing, I think that activities such as bingo and rummage sales can be great outreach activities that will get people to your church that ordinarily would never show up.
