The "MOST MEN" you talk about are not the "MOST MEN" that I know. I know ALOT of guys that own a suit and tie, and they look, oh let me see, how do I want to say this.......PROFESSIONAL.
EDIT: let me explain further my position. I don't think casual is wrong or that you MUST always wear a suit and tie, but I think that the church is in a spiraling downward path of giving up things that are good. To me, this is just one more thing of many. First the KJV to, no, not one other version but MANY versions, meeting less often, getting more wordly (in all ways--this includes dress), in faith, etc. Someone said the church is at any time only 10 years behind the world, so as the world degresses, so the church follows only 10 years behind. Does this makes sense?
I totally AGREE!!!! When I walk into a concert, I want to be able to distinguish the group members from the audience, ie. suits & ties. Now if they are singin' outside and it's 100 degrees, that's another story -even so, they can still dress nice (something better than jeans and a t-shirt).

It's not the dress that make a person unapproachable, I think we can all agree when you get right down to it, bottom line, it's the attitude. There are just as many unapproachable in jeans and a t-shirt as there are in suits and ties.

Please don't take this wrong but I don't know how you equate dressing in a modest and casual way to giving in to many loose translations of the beloved KJV bible.
I think the key to understanding what Tina is saying is in the thought that the church is only ten years behind the world - it is degressing even though God hasn't changed His standards.

Mrs. Kerrlaw taught Kindergarten and/or Transition (pre-first) for 14 years and has taught Second Grade for ten years. Before that she had her own pre-school for several years.
I admire you if you can dress up and keep clean teaching Kindergarten. Mrs. K comes home with hand prints, glue, paint, glitter, etc. all over her. Because of this she dresses casually to teach.
However, I believe that singers, teachers, and everybody else should dress in the way they feel most comfortable.
Maybe I should have been more clear. When I say "dressed up" (for a kindergarten teacher), I'm talking about twill pants, or a skirt. I'm definitely not talking about wearing an evening gown to work!
Yes, it gets messy sometimes in kindergarten. And I don't always wear skirts and twill pants, but when I do I kind of feel more professional.
However, if you read my previous post in this thread, you will see that I am in favor of people dressing however they feel the most comfortable.

Hey from what I've seen on TV and elsewhere alot of churches are only 10 minutes behind the world. Wearing casual clothes,suits, or jeans isn't going to hurt it that much.

Funny "dressing" story. A couple years ago I was invited to an awards dinner and the people that where hosting the dinner were freaking out until I got there. The invitations were sent and dress was listed as "Business Attire" and they all know that I work in shorts and a t-shirt about 75% of the time and jeans and a t-shirt the other 25%. They were sure worried that I was GOING TO SHOW UP in MY business attire. lol (No...even I own some suits)

My business attire now is a suit. However in the past I had to be careful. Business attire was a uniform complete with badge, Sam Brown and weapon. I bet that would raise an eyebrow or two.

The ratio of my inseam to my overall height must be considerably less than average. What would a 5' 5" guy with a similar ratio do? Once in a while, I can find a 29" inseam pair on the shelf, but I have to go through the entire inventory in my waist size (which I will refrain from mentioning at this juncture).
Blair sells men's twill pants online in a 28" inseam, but I've found the quality of their products is always lower than most other name brands. Anyone else have a similar problem shopping for clothes?
