Here is a place to post what knitting or crocheting project you are currently work on.

Right now I am working on a crochet blanket using scrap yarn. I have a book on different stitches and patterns using your scap yarn.

Who's next?

I'm a crochet addict... I started crocheting when I was in high school and more than 15 years later, I'm still going strong. It can be hard for me to find patterns I like because I don't like "granny" stuff, but over the years, more and more cool stuff is coming out. I have a number of favorite websites that I find stuff on as well.

When I get home (I can't remember my photobucket password), I'll try to remember to post links to some of my projects this past year (all these years doing crochet and I only now thought about photographing what I've done since most of it is given away as gifts).

I have piles of books, patterns, magazines, etc on crochet. Yes, I really am an addict. [:D]

My current project is a cute "mushroom" my sister-in-law asked me to make. I'm also working on an afghan for my living room for me that's in tunisian crochet which I wish I could find more patterns and techniques for because it's a lot of fun.

I crochet and knit...and hand-machine knit. (plus a variety of other needle work things). Mostly I crochet. I've been doing crochet for nearly 30 years. I learned to knit first, but it went too slow. didn't take it up again until 2005 when I inherited my aunt's stash of knitting books. Bought the knitting machine to try to speed up the process; have been designing patterns for it or modifying hand-knit patterns to work on the machine.

Currently I am working on:
Crochet: 1) designing a picture frame in thread crochet--will have a quilted background under a crochet lattice with crochet yellow climbing roses on it around the opening for the picture. This will be a gift for a friend who recently lost her husband to Alzheimer's. Yellow roses are special to her--used for both her son's and husband's funerals.
2) 2 afghans--one with roses on a lattice, the other woven
3) a crochet beaded necklace and bracelet
4) a pencil/crochet hook holder with flowers with beaded centers and a beaded butterfly.

Knit: Napkin rings for a friend

hand-machine knit: 1) A toddler blanket for my nephew
2) placemats to match the napkin rings (my design)
3) working on modifying 2 hand-knit sweaters with designs (cat and butterflys) to work on the knitting machine.

I usually have several projects in progress. Partly this is because I try to take something with me everywhere so I can keep my hands busy; some projects either get too big to carry or cannot be carried (knitting machine projects), so I'll start an other "carry" project...or something happens and I start a project in response...

interesting stuff.

i recently made a frog fridgie and a spider fridgie, but i made them into bookmarks.

also i made 2 roses and leaves for greeting cards. i'm making an envelope-style little purse that i plan to emroider or cross stitch.

i have a patttern for a stuffed dragon.

I'm just beginning to learn how to knit...in other words....I'm awful at it.

My grandmother showed me how to do it when I was younger but I don't remember anything. I wish now that I had paid more attention then.

My mom is going to show me how to do it. I found a pattern for a pretty baby blanket that is actually very easy for a beginner to make, so I think I'll try that first (you knit basic squares, then embellish them and sew them together.)

I want to learn to knit too. I can cast on but not much more than that! [:D]I did buy a knitting board but I haven't tried it out yet... Gotta find time between all my projects and with as crazy as my life is right now... [8D]

I always thought that casting on was the hardest...

to knit after cast-on (yarn behind the work):

hold needle with the yarn in the left hand (if you are right handed) then insert the second needle (front to back) through the top loop on the first needle (second needle tip will be behind the first needle). wrap the yarn around the second needle (your hand will move kind of counter-clockwise) then use the tip of the needle to pull the loop through the loop on the first needle. then slide the loop off the left hand needle. repeat.

For both knitting and crochet, the first row or two after the cast on or chain are hard because there isn't enough "project" there to grip it while making the stitch.

You are much further along than I am! I hate figuring out how to cast on. I've been trying to use pictures and instructions, but I'm left handed and they are right handed, and I'm seriously that blonde that I can't figure out.

(Then there is my mom who is right handed and says "just do it with your right hand, it will be easier" - umm, for you, yeah, but not for a left handed person!)

(((lexie))) I can totally empathize. I'm a lefty too! I found a book though that describes it for both righties and lefties and that is so wonderful! I was always good at being able to mentally "flip" stuff over, but when it starts to get really complicated and I don't know what I'm doing in the first place, it's a challenge! I'll try to remember to find out what my book is called so maybe you can get one too.

And casting on was really easy for me to pick up. I'm not sure why, but maybe all my years of crochet helped in there somehow. I haven't done much more than that though - just need to sit down and take the time. It's so frustrating to find an amazing pattern with yarn only to see it's knit - not crochet... [8D]

OK, I had to look it up because I forgot this book and the purl stitch book were the ones that my cat... ummm... marked... [:@]

But I really like them and plan on getting them again (and keeping them away from my stinker....)... [8D]

i'm a lefty too, but with all patterns being for right-handers, i decided to learn crochet w/ my Right hand. maybe if you just give it a little try, you can do it right handed. maybe you'll surprise yourself...

I've never had problems doing patterns left handed. Which hand you hook with shouldn't affect the pattern. The only challenge is learning techniques for new stitches.

The things that you crochet might become highly treasured by your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of my grandmothers did beautiful work that all of us admire and want to pass down. The other did hook rugs from rags, which at the time highly embassassed me. But, now, I can see it as something we will have long family discussions over when my mother passes on. We won't fight over money or property; but, I see trouble ahead when it comes to those hook rugs!!! [:D]

I'm just a basic knitter. Nothing harder than knit and purl.

I'm also a leftie.

Years ago, I went through a stage of knitting a lot of scarves for gifts and some to sell. I went nuts at the time, buying all sorts of colours of yarn. It's not wool, it's like feathers. Very soft, but also very fiddly to knit. Anyway, I was thinking about all the yarn I have left over, (bags of it!) I decided that rather than just leaving it sitting there, I'm going to knit some more of it up into scarves. We've got some chaplains at church and I figure with the cool weather here right now, I'll give them the scarves and they can give them out to people who need them. I doubt I'll be able to make too many up before the coolest of the temperatures leave, but I figure I can make them and stockpile them for next year. If the chaplains can't use them, I'm sure other organisations can.

That's a great idea! I just recently donated bags of my leftover yarn to a local drug treatment house. They teach the ladies to crochet and knit and are always in need of more yarn. They sent me a bunch of pictures of some of their projects as well as some thank you cards signed by some of the ladies there. What a blessing! [:)]

I'm a rabid and incurable knitter with a stash that is slowly but surely taking over the entire sitting room. At the moment I'm doing some cosy gloves just to test drive my new Malabrigo yarn. I learnt to knit in primary school, where it was part of the syllabus for all the little girls. All you beginners, you're in for decades of joy [:D], so don't get discouraged. I just recently finished crocheting this mushroom for my sister-in-law. She asked if I could make it and it was pretty easy. I usually do big projects, so it's fun to do something that doesn't take too long now and again.

Cool Thread! It's nice to hear about others who are working on these types of projects.

I'm knitting a baby blanket. It's from a skein of yarn you can buy at Michael's called Bundle of Love. There are instructions for crochet and knit. I've crocheted a few blankets -- the first complete items I've ever done in my life. I was amazed at how easy it was. I decided to try the knitting instructions, and it's a little more challenging because the instructions call for using two strands of yarn side by side(?)[8|]. Which I suppose means having two skeins feeding onto the needle at the same time. Since I had only one skein, I'm simply doubling the amount of stitches per row. I've only done 8 rows so far, so we'll see how the knitted version turns out.

I'm knitting my husband a cabled cardigan. I'm actually using 3 patterns kind of swirled together into one, and hopefully it will come out okay. hee!

I also just finished cross-stitching the baby's Christmas stocking and I'm trying to finish up her birth announcement. Preferably BEFORE she turns two. *sigh*

I can't really crochet for any length of time anymore. It messes with my carpal tunnel.

On tunisian crochet: The nice part about tunisian crochet is that it's usually basically a solid backing with at most chain bobbles... so if you want a new pattern, all you have to do is chart one out on graph paper, each square is a stitch, and color in the parts you want to chain bobble for the "pop out" part. OR, you can pick out any small motif in cross stitch, do the tunisian base, and then cross stitch over it.
