Last night I went to a Bible study with a friend . I have never met these people before. They prayed things that they couldn't possibly have known prior too. I was covered in goose bumps and moved beyond explanation. I don't think i have ever experienced God in such a powerful way before. my question to ya'll is: Have you ever had an experience like this? What happened and how did it change you?

earthless -> RE: Power of God (6/11/2008 8:10:10 AM)

Could someone have told them the info you think they couldn't have known?

deliveredarling -> RE: Power of God (6/11/2008 9:15:02 AM)

No. Bear in mind, I am very skeptical of this sort of thing. I have seen it used and abused too much. This is why I was absolutely convinced that it came from God. The one who invited me to this study, has not seen or talked to some of the people in years.

Earthless,
Is there another explanation that I'm not aware of? I know that you have dealt with the falseness (for lack of a better word) in religion, so I am sincerely asking. Could it be from something else? These people did not know we were even going to visit the bible study. This is what convinces me.

My son's biological father committed suicide when he was just a baby. My brother committed suicide when I was seventeen. When this woman prayed, she prayed for the generational spirit of suicide to be broken off of him. I'm sure you can imagine my complete shock and understand why I was floored. Input is welcome.

Delivered,

While I am like you in terms of the skepticism, I also believe and know that the Spirit knows and communicates in ways we do not understand. Whether or not these people had some information (from a human source) that led to their prayer, the Spirit appears to have boldly broken through. Amen!

If only there were more of this!

I would seek the Lord on this if I were you and ask Him to confirm to you how to think about, respond or what to believe in this specific situation. If this truly was Him, I know you don't want to be found doubting. Bless you![:)] LL

Hi DD...

I agree with LL...

Also, there are some that are gifted with a "Word of Knowledge" or "Wisdom" or "Prophesy"... etc. I am not saying this woman does or doesn't have any of these gifts... but from what you have reported it sounds like she may. She may not have known the past, however, the Holy Spirit may have enlightened her and prompted her to pray concerning these things in regard to negative or oppressing spirits hindering you or your son.

Praise God that she has allowed herself to be a willing vessel for the Holy Spirit to move in and through. YOU were touched!
Amen!

The demonic realm knows our business, our things which no one may know but ourselves.

I am NOT NOT NOT saying the people at your Bible study were operating in that realm or that that is the explanation of what you experienced, no.

But I did want to address your question about what else could it have been...

mvic -> RE: Power of God (6/11/2008 7:37:23 PM)

My thoughts on the matter - and they may be wrong, so consider them and test them with others:

Your shock about hearing that woman is understandable - I would have probably reacted the same way.

To analyse the situation:

The woman talking about suicide in your family could have been coincidence. She may have been talking generally and you assumed she was talking to/about you. OR

She may have been told about you/your life by someone else. OR

She may be being used by Satan to infiltrate the group and turn it to chaos. (I've seen this happen). OR

She may indeed have received this message from God.

So, how do you know which and how do you react?

First of all I would pray about it and leave it in the hands of God. Don't pester Him and keep coming back to it. Just leave it with Him. If the message was indeed from Him He'll talk to you again - in other ways and through other means.

If you feel comfortable with it; go back to the group. Either alone or with the same friend or perhaps with a totally different person. If you go with a different friend, say nothing about the experience you had. Just go and participate in the group as normal.

By doing so, you never know, that woman may speak to/about you again, or to/about your friend. This may help you analyse the situation better.

But best of all, don't dwell on this. Leave it to God. He will deal with it in His own way and in His own time.

Hope this helps a little.

Very well put!

This is very important... God always affirms whatever is from Him.

Walker311 -> RE: Power of God (6/11/2008 11:19:43 PM)

We are living in a world that is so hungry for something to believe in. A sign, a glimmer of hope, or some evidence that God is aware of our suffering and plight.

People will sometimes go to extremes to import something done or spoken into their own lives especially if it has Godly or Christian overtones.

God works in mysterious ways and He does speak through others. He has shown signs. He has done great wonders in the present day but we must use restraint and caution. We must test these things against scripture and our own hearts and minds.

Some people need certain situations to build their faith and hope but their beliefs should never be swayed by a yearning for more signs or larger goose bumps.

deliveredarling -> RE: Power of God (6/12/2008 7:21:32 AM)

I agree with you Walker. My son is the questioning believer. These "words of knowledge" as some have put it, were for my son. We were closing in prayer, and this woman got up and bee-lined straight for my son. He is somewhat rebellious towards God. I do believe that it was from God to demonstrate His power to my son. God has done similar ( not near as dramatic and overt, though) things in the past using me to demonstrate to both my husband and son. At this point, I'm thanking the Lord for His demonstration to my son. I have no qualms about returning to this group. There is no self- seeking amongst them and they stand solidly on the Bible.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Power of God (6/12/2008 7:43:47 AM)

If good comes from it, its from God, If not, then not.

Well, not really. When I started going to church the pastor's sermon was like he and I were in a room talking about all my problems. Nothing too specific, just general problems I am sure many people have who are not saved.

I have had people tell me stuff that...so far...has not happened. I have heard "prophecies" that just were not true at all.

I would be guarded, but also optomistic. If this is not from God, the light will shine on it sooner or later. If you decide to attend this bible study again, go "bathed in prayer" that you might discern the truth.

Little_1 -> RE: Power of God (6/12/2008 1:04:06 PM)

God is not a God of confusion or disorder. If it is something that God wishes to communicate - He will confirm what He has to say so there is no doubt ......

mvic has given good advice.

Giulia -> RE: Power of God (6/14/2008 10:47:19 AM)

At the beginning of my relationship with God I heard a sermon about a woman in the bible. The preacher was talking directly to me even though there were hundreds of people in the room. I heard the voice and had the ears to hear whereas previously I hadn't. That was the start of a very profound experience I had with God. I have been changed forever.

In response to the OP - Giulia's post has reminded me about once being in a group of women and the annointing of God was so powerful upon the female speaker leading the meeting that the words they delivered were like those spoken of in the scripture which says "For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12). On this particular ocassion, the Holy Spirit was speaking directly to hearts - my own included! I was so convicted that I thought my heart would burst out of my chest. I was sure others must have been able to hear my heart thumping and I was even struggling to compose myself and breathe! At the time I did not obey what God was saying and ran from God but it cost me dearly; however, I turned and obeyed in the long run but it cost me much for disobeying the initial warning.
