So I received a invitation through myspace that I thought you would all want to know about. Matt Felts of Monument Quartet has a non-profit org. and he is doing a fund raiser on July 1st at the River of Life church (Johnny Minick's) in Smyrna, TN on July 1st. He is helping to raise money to buy a service dog for a three year old boy with Autism. Apparently the dog costs over $12,000. Mike Allen, Allison Speer, Toni Clay, Monument and a country singer named Ed Bruce are singing. Im not familiar with Bruce or Clay but the rest of the lineup is really good. I think its awesome to see SG artists in a era when fuel is outrageous and good dates are harder and harder to get, show Christs love and care more for others than themselves. Im sure that non of them are getting paid for this. He sent the invitation and asked for anyone in the Nashville area to come and donate if they could. Its a bit far for me but I have to go to this one. I hope as many of you as possible can come and help out to. There is a myspace for the event called Reaching out 4 reece. You can get to it on Monuments myspace.

Ed Bruce used to have a terrific voice. I remember him from when he was a Country star back in the 1970s and 1980s. He crooned songs like "Last Taste Of Texas" and "The Last Cowboy Song." I didn't know he was still singing.

And I think Ed Bruce was in some TV shows also. Can't remember the name right off but know he was in some Westerns. He did have a smooth voice.

Is there an address or something to donate if you aren't able to be there?

Yeah, from his email it seemed like a labor of love. I looked on the website and donations can be sent to Beyond Measure Ministries 1216 Waveland CT, LaVergne TN 37086. My wife and I plan on going and helping financially. What a great cause. The way the message went, the family wasn't Christians but the parents bothe got saved on Mothers Day as a result of the show of God's love to their family. That is true ministry. Tanner, Im looking forward to seeing you there. It would be cool to have several of the forum people there. I take it you are friends with Felts. Ive only met him at concerts but he seems like a great person. He is a awesome tenor so Im glad to see his heart matches his voice.

yeah, felts is a very cool dude and fun to hang out with lol...and he's a baseball nut just like i am! i think he's a pretty underrated singer and i also think the whole monument organization is a underrated...that is a very classy organization that seems to be doing everything right...and plus, daryl williams is the man...

sgpianoman -> RE: SG artists really ministering (6/12/2008 12:40:12 PM)

aah man! I thought this was gonna be a thread debating who in sg actually ministers and who entertains. *sigh* [8D]

Honestly thought...that is really great to see southern gospel folks coming together for a good cause. And honestly, its a different type of cause than the "normal". ie, deathly sickness, building fund, children's home ect. Not that raising money for these causes aren't good...its just cool to see a different cause. Great Job!!

TQ_Fan_4_Life -> RE: SG artists really ministering (6/12/2008 1:09:14 PM)

wow. SG groups doing shows and not making sure they have cash in pocket for it. God bless those singers. and that is a great thing doing.

Now that is a touching thing and wish I could be there for it.

will also be saying prayers for the child as well.

goldcityquartetfan -> RE: SG artists really ministering (6/12/2008 10:24:13 PM)

I completey agree. He is one of the top tenors in SG but he is overlooked for awards. I thought for sure he would win something this year. I thought it was odd at Monument wasn't nominated for anything. You said he is a baseball nut. Someone told me he played pro baseball. Do you know if that is true? What I thought was great is that Felts was the one sending out the message. You don't normally see that level of involvement from an artist when they do a charity event. Does he have a family member with Autism? Maybe thats why he is so commited. Anyway really great to see them helping a great cause. Hope it goes well. Im excited to go.

bradytenor -> RE: SG artists really ministering (6/12/2008 11:38:35 PM)

Well there goes the myth that Monument was strictly entertainers. They've gotten a bad wrap for doing some crossover stuff but it seems like their hearts are deifinitly about ministry. Wish I could be there. I am a huge Allison Durham Speer fan. She is fantastic. We tried having a benefit concert at our church last year and couldn't get a group to come but they all said no. This one has a star filled lineup. God bless these singers for giving of themselves.
