Self-enforcement of TOS. Removed inadvertant double post.

Since when do POWs have legal rights?

Since the Supreme Court ruled them to have them,

Court says detainees have rights

In a stinging rebuke to President Bush's anti-terror policies, a deeply divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign detainees held for years at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba have the right to appeal to U.S. civilian courts to challenge their indefinite imprisonment without charges.

"The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times."

If you'll notice, my original question was "what rights have YOU PERSONALLY lost under this administration?" (Post #12 if you're interested...)

Insert sound of crickets chirping.....

Right to privacy: Neutred in the name of "national security"
Right of Habeas Corpus: Neutred in the name of "national security"
Right of free speach: All dissenters labled as "wanting the terrorists to win"
Right of quick and speedy trial: thrown out in the name of revenge

And let's not forget wanting to protect telecoms from prosecution for their part in spying on American citizens, lying about the war, lying about the use of torture.

Next question.

tafkam -> RE: Rush is right (6/12/2008 9:51:38 PM)

So you PERSONALLY have lost these rights? Maybe you'd like to tell us your story, 'cause it sounds like a doozy.....

I abhor abortion but I also abhor this government's attempts to dilute the rights set forth in the Constitution as well!!! I thought conservatives were for less government intrusion in their lives!!! Am I wrong? Or would they rejoice living in a police state?

That's what I thought.

So you're ok with the government spying on it's own?

I'll play along though, if only for the lulz. I haven't had most of those things happen to me, but just posting my opinion on these forums has people labeling me with the intent for my country to lose.

Hardly an accurate portrayal, but the one I expect these days.

No, but I am okay with them spying on SUSPECTED TERRORISTS.

Nice try. So it's ok to label any dissent as wanting the terrorists to win, thus attempting to neuter free speach. Good to know where you stand.

Please show me in any post where I said this. Can you? I thought not. Do not attribute statements to me that I did not make.

Thank you very much.....

I have. In 2004, my wife was preparing a report for a college paper on El Alhambra in Spain. To research part of the Islamic tradition that went into its building we ended up on an Islamic website that once the page came up a pop-up appeared informing us that we were being monitored by the FBI. Being that it was a site about Islamic poetry and symbolism in architecture I failed to see any "terrorist" connection!

Thank you. Next.....

A pop-up? A pop-up? Did I hear you right? A pop-up?

Sheesh, the lengths some people will go to try and prove a "point".....

So of course this is the reaction I expected.

Their experience somehow doesn't count, even though it answers your question.

tafkam -> RE: Rush is right (6/12/2008 10:24:52 PM)

Methinks I'll call the FBI office and ask them if they use such pop ups on websites.

My guess is the answer is "no"......if they were spying on you, wouldn't it be a stupid move indeed to tell you about it?

Careful, you are showing your ignorance of the law of the supply and demand and the understanding of the global market.

Strawman.

That one family made their money illegally does not negate that another may have made theirs unethically.

It is an implied right that goes hand in hand with the right against illegal search and seizures. The courts have ruled that way for a long time now and it's not likely to change anytime soon.

Yes, it is bad law and has led to Roe V Wade and legalized sodomy. There is no mention of this is the Consitution. It came from individuals who believe in a "living breathing" Consistution rather than those wo believe in an orginalist approach. Read Mark Levin's "Men in Black" for a good history on this topic.

You asked how the PA affected someone personally. You asked for proof, I gave you one. If you choose to ignore the greater implication that the FBI, because of the PA monitors you as you search the internet, that's your choice. If you can't see warrantless searches on US citizens as violating their 4th amendment rights, I can do nothing for you. I can't make the blind want to see.

Why would they tell you about it? One word answer: intimidation. The feds want you to fear them. Don't believe me, here's a simple test. Dispute your tax bill with the IRS without having a lawyer present and see what strong arm tactics they will bring to bear on you with their threats and intimidation. Oh, they also can seize your property without due process.
