Okay, there are these tiny bugs, a rusty brown color that are all over the place right now. They're seriously tiny, but I guess they swarm and I guess I keep riding my bike through the swarms because I am getting them all over me a few times a week. They do bite and leave a little itchy red mark, nothing serious.

I was trying to figure out what they are and I'm leaning toward something called a springtail. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and more importantly, will they DIE soon and leave me alone? [:@]

I looked at Wikipedia and it says the bug you named does not bite. It is possible that they do sometimes irritate the skin. And it does not indicate that they fly.

I live in Dallas and have never encountered anything that fits the description you gave. So, you must live in a part of Texas that is not North Central Texas.

However, it sounds plausible that it is some species of gnat. Gnats fly, they swarm and they seem particularly noticeable when it's hot and we're sweating. I can't remember gnats biting but they do land on you and they feel like bites, even thought they're not. And they drive you nuts!!!

I don't know, but here in Oklahoma we've had a really annoying teeny tiny bug that comes out of nowhere and crawls all over us when we're sitting outside. It's so irritating. They are about the size of a pinhead maybe, and they are dark brownish, like a tiny beetle. [&:]

Okay, I'm actually in Oklahoma now and during a walk this evening found myself covered in these little things. After careful and still observation, it appears that they little beasties do have wings. That makes me think they are some kind of gnat after all.

And to clarify, I've never actually seen them swarm, like those bigger bugs you can see in the summer. I just know that if there's one on you, there are likely a couple dozen more.
