I tried out Air America briefly, but got bored with it and quit listening, just because it struck me as basically everything that's bad about Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh -only presented from a liberal angle. And I know I'm not the only one. Most of the other liberals I know have never bothered with talk radio, either.

IMO, there would really be no need for liberals to listen to a liberal talk radio station, they can get all the left-leaning views of the world they want by turning on almost any major news station or tv program. Conservatives on the other hand, do not usually have that option so they tend to listen to talk radio programs, where the conservative view can be found most often.

Clear Channel owns stations that they bought and paid for. They are successful because they run programming that is popular.

That's all well and good. But part of the problem is more and more 'news' media is being driven by what people want to hear (ratings)....and not so much by what they need to hear.

How often has 'conservative' radio or TV sent a correspondent to say Sudan or China and do extended, in-depth reporting?

Just because a program is popular and is what people want to hear doesn't mean it is a program filled with lies to get ratings. The talk radio programs I listen to do tell me what I need to hear in my opinion, which is the side of whichever news story that is not being heard on tv. And FWIW, I do not listen to Sean and Rush, because IMO they are too political. But part of my listening also includes local radio shows, not all of which are conservative, but still can be helpful when added to the conservative programs in sorting out the real truth on some issues.

As far as a conservative radio host sending a correspondent to the Sudan or China? Well I suppose that would only help if there was some breaking story that called for such a thing anyway. But also I might add that just because a news station sends their reporters scurrying around the world to get the "in-depth" story does not mean they are going to give you a completely clear, un-biased view of what the story is about. It can still be slanted to fit an agenda either way. From what I have commonly seen the reporters will be on the air with some foreign location in the background giving you the same story you have already heard before, only this time you are supposed to believe it more I suppose simply because they are halfway around the world telling it to you this time. It really has never made much sense to me.

I'm just very happy I live so close to Montreal and Ottawa and can get real news, not fluff like the US news.
Of course I have to hear about the fisheries in the Maritimes now and then and it's dull, but beats the heck out of gasbag Limbaugh on just about every AM station on the dial. I have no problem with Limbaugh being on the radio, I just tune away. But in his time slot you can't get anything else away from a big city.
Canadian talk radio seems much more balanced, but also more local (garbage collector strikes and all that).

Just FYI, there are all news stations in the U.S. also.

I'm listening to Jay Seckleow (sp?) and although I am for freedom of speech, this thing will effect Christian talk radio especially. Imagine a show like for instance locally, Frank Pastore might have a subject like homosexuality and if he says that homosexuality is wrong and then Salem (Parent company of KKLA) under this is required to get a representive from the Gay community to offer a opposing viewpoint. Or a message by Greg Laurie dealing with the same thing, and he might be forced to get Troy Perry or Marsha Stevens to give a comment dealing with his sermon.

I just wish Congress leave well enough alone.

When liberals and Democrats cannot get their stances passed by the American vote - they will force it via government legislation.

This is nothing more than an anti-conservative, anti-Christian attack.

It must burn them that Air America never took off. Regardless of how much money some leftists threw at it. Ha.

The market for liberal talk-radio is non-existant. Conservative radio exists simpy because there exist a market for such a media. Advertisers get a return on the marketing $$$. Show me, in the Constitution, where there is a mandate for the Fairness Doctrine. But libs hate that document and will distort it to suit their own means.

I'm gonna play devils advocate here...

What if Whoopi and Baba Wa Wa speak out on the same moral issues which they oppose if the FD is enacted or on Olbermann's show? Will they have to invite a spoke person, say from FOTF to present an opposing viewpoint?

Or will it effect those shows too?

I believe the bill is more geared towards radio than TV. But if also involves TV, they only opponent they will allow will be someone on the level of Floyd R. Turbo.
