We have 5 children and the youngest just turned 5. The older ones were acting a little miscievious one day and I got them all in a group and explained to them that they are examples and when the baby see them do it he may mimic them. I asked if they all understood and they all shook there heads yes. The baby then raises his hand and asked what baby? I remember when my now 9 year old was about 4and he was always running into things. I told him one time jokingly you keeps this up and we are going to have to glue a helmut to your head. Low and behold the next time he got injured he bumped his head and he would not put his hands down. I asked why and he said he was worried that I was going to glue a helmut to his head. Needless to say Ive learned to be more careful with my words. He also told me I will be funny forever.

When I was younger I said, "don't yell at me and I'll be good." That has held true all my life.

Today my almost 8 yo was doing her reading and she said to me "Whoever wrote this book needs to be fired." I guess that is what she thought of that book!!!

My 3 year old had a friend over playing and they were fighting over a toy. My wife explained to her that as her friend was the guest she got to pick what toy she wanted to play with and gave the toy to her friend. after a few moments there was screaming, my daughter had the toy in her hands and announced to my wife that it was her turn to be the guest.

For years my son (now 11) called skunks; stunks (appropriately enough). I never wanted to correct him.

This is not a saying, but my 15 YO was leaving for a friends house the other day and as he was walking out the door, I said, "Come give me some sugar!". A few seconds passed and I thought he left anyway, when he came back in carrying the sugar canister and proceeded to place it in my lap.

Maggie, that reminds me that I had a kid at the preschool who always called me "Miss Teacher," and I thought it was so cute, that I never could bear to correct him.

It isn't necessary to correct them. Eventually they self-correct. Things my kids used to mis-pronounce or mis-grammarize (I just made that word up) and that I dearly miss: Mazagine I amn't (I'm not) Pasketti And my uncle used to call flamingos 'paflingoes'

Thing 2 would say 'jiggling' instead of 'juggling'. And if Thing 1 was hot he'd say, "Oy! I'm vetting!' or 'Mummy! Hold my vetter!!'

I've got a 3 year old that says purkle... and I'm not going to correct that one. I like it.

The first time my daughter had Swiss cheese, she loved it and politely asked for more squished cheese.

We were at my cousin's beach wedding before it started and there was a light drizzle. My family and I were huddled under a couple of huge golf umbrella's waiting to see what was going to happen. A plane flew by...one of those that has the messages streaming behind it. My mum looks up and says, "That pilot's up there thinking, 'look at those idiots sitting on the beach." and my 8 year old looks around and says, "It's okay Mama...we're not the only idiots out here." pointing to more people on the beach.

This first one could probably be posted under "Kids say the sweetest things": My 6 yo son asked last night, "Mom, where did you get that shirt?". I said, "Wal-Mart, why?" He said, "Because you look pretty." Awww - I was so blessed. He's also the one who tells me I'm beautiful (even when I don't have any make-up on). God knows just what we need!! My 2 yo daughter cannot say L at the beginning of words. When she wants us to see something, she'll say something like, "Gook it mommy, a pider(spider)!" Ha, Ha. My 13 yo daugther, when being a bit ornery, will say, "I can't help it mom, it's hormones". Good excuse. My 11 yo son is just blatantly honest, can't get away with anything around him, he told me the other morning that I was snoring really loud. Mommys don't snore!!!

Just remembered, 13 yo when about 2 or 3, used to call butterflies, "flutterbys". That is what they do - they flutter by!!
