I listen to alot of it: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Guns N' Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Megadeth, Bob Dylan, The Who, Deep Purple, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Overkill, Motley Crue, Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith, Yes, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Van Halen, Foghat, The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Velvet Revolver, Ted Nugent, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Beatles (Including all subsequent solo careers), Cream, Eric Clapton etc...

Nothing that a minister would do -- youth pastor, assistant pastor, or pastor -- would amaze me. NOTHING!!! The assistant pastor where I used to attend would invite our children and the other children of the church over often and would show them R-rated movies without telling us. I learned about it and put my foot down on their attendance. Then we went to San Francisco for a youth gathering/revival with a beloved speaker from the same church. I went along as one of the chaperons. My children were to spend the night different homes, and when my daughter, age 12-13 or so, came back, she told me that the home she spent the night in did the same thing after the "revival service." Whaaaaaa? [sm=s201.gif]

I am a christian who loves to llisten to 50's, 60's and 70's rock. But I have my priorities and that is CCM music, particularly praise and worship music. Still, its neat taking a trip down memory lane with the music I grew up listening to.

[:(]) Yeah, KISS' 'Alive' cover WAS the coolest over thirty years ago, still is!! So KISS sang about sex and all that, well, guess what: It's rock and roll, baby. And we all know where the term rock and roll came from. [;)] No big surprise there. But it does bug me that Gene Simmons is more about $$$ than art, he doesn't regard what he does as an art form but rather as a way to make money. It's burgers. I don't really listen to much Christian-record-label music these days. It's predictable, and there are few good CCM (Cranium-Crushing Metal) bands out there. If I find a good Christian metal band, I listen to it because it's METAL, not because it makes a good accompaniment track to my Bible study devotions. I don't think in terms of "secular", I just think in terms of, is this metal face-baking? [8D] Or does it spew cat-hairballs? [:'(] Currently listening to "Headless Cross" by Black Sabbath. [8D]

A song is a song, to me. If I watch a play or a movie or a television show which has a main subject other than Jesus Himself, I think it'd be hypocritical of me to do otherwise with music. I like listening to all sorts of music.

1st Samuel ch 12 vs 21: And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor DELIVER; for they are vain. So what do we conclude from this verse? If it don't praise God it is vain and your wasting valuable time that you could be using to witness for God.

It is very common for Jewish people to spell God "G-d" as a sign of respect for His Holy Name. I hope that answers your question. BTW, I think that it is a nice gesture of respect too!

Not all secular music can be classified as "Godless", only that which endorses Godless behavior or obviously sinful activities. It is not Godless to sing a song about a life exxperience, good or bad. A song can be descriptive, but not necessarily prescriptive. It's Godless if we spend the majority of our time entertaining ourselves. That's where I personally run into trouble and must guard against. It's not Godless if I listen to Louis Armstrong's Hot Fives And Sevens (secular music that I find joyous and uplifting) or Beethoven while cleaning my house. I'm listening for the sheer enjoyment of the music, the artistry of it. Personally, I hear God's glory on display when I hear a finely crafted piece of music. It doesn't have to be overtly Christian in content for me to realize that. Use discernment by all means when approaching any secular entertainment. But don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Evaluate everything on a song-by-song basis. If it hinders you in your walk with the Lord, by all means don't listen to it. I've already written enough on this subject matter in previous threads, so at the risk of repeating myself, I'll stop here. Blessings.

Can't listening to p&w music ALL the time put you in the category of vain repetition of words because I can't believe the people that listen to JUST this type of music are in an attitute of praise & worship EVERY time they listen to it. Sometimes I think people do it more as a showoff as to how Christian they are than to praise him! "In praying, don't use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking." Matthew 6:7 BTW, I am speaking in generalities and not directing these comments towards any poster in particular so spare me the personal affrontage!

Everything I had read so far had been various opinions and that was mine. Thought this was some sort of Christian forum but I could be wrong. We still listen to it - mainly 60's/70's that we grew up with. I don't listen to it a lot. And usually if the songs are really "bad" from what I thought they were earlier, I'll switch it back to the Christian radio station. I would say that we listen about 80% Christian and 20% secular. Before becoming a true Christian, I never listened or heard of Christian radio stations!
