ORIGINAL: Apparition Hello everyone... I was wondering if there was any scriptural evidence against wearing hats in church for men.... Some misunderstand, in my opinion, the Scripture which says that a man's head should not be covered but a woman's should, and they apply this (wrongly, in my opinion) to coverings instead of to hair. What most do not understand is that the priests always went into the Temple (the main place of worship at the time the Scripture was written) with their heads covered, and men similarly covered their heads when in prayer whether at home, outside, or in the synagogue. If the whole Scripture is read, Paul was writing about hair, not coverings. However, in Western society, it is commonly understood as a sign of respect when Gentile males remove their hats (not kepot/yarmulkas) while in a building, when in prayer, in the continued presence of females inside a building, in court, etc. One thing I would write My opinion, however, is that if you were in a church in which the ordinary/accepted tradition is that males remove their hats, you should, without rancor or questioning , remove your hat, unless it is a kepah or yarmulka. It looks like you did. If you disagree with their tradition, you should remove your hat in respect to their tradition or you should not return.
