danielmount -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/16/2008 9:13:32 PM)

I am thrilled to see the number of votes here for "What We Needed" for song and Look No Further for album. Those were a top-notch song and album, respectively.[:)]

(Yeah, they were my picks. :) )

Jeff_from_Kentucky -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/16/2008 11:12:29 PM)

I voted for It Means Just What It Says for Song of the Year. I said when I first heard it at a concert before it was ever released that it would win SOTY and I still believe that.

I guess we'll find out in September.

Seaton -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/17/2008 7:43:52 AM)

I think SOTY this year is wide open. Of the ten nominees there is no one clear cut stand out. I think it will come down to what artist's fans turned out the most votes.

danielmount -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/17/2008 9:43:45 AM)

I think there are a few that stand out more than the rest. Several of the songs on the list, while very good, aren't the best the group has ever recorded, the group's signature song. On the other hand, "What We Needed" and "I Have Been Changed" may well be the best songs the Kingdom Heirs and Legacy Five have ever released, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a sympathy vote (but that's not the right term unless someone died, is it?) boost Greater Vision's song. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes down to one of those three.

youngartist -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/17/2008 9:50:43 AM)

"I Have Been Changed" didn't do well enough on the charts (IMO) to win.

I think "What We Needed" has a great chance because it is currently #1 - talk about a good time to have a hit! [:D]

"It Means Just What It Says" was in the Top 2 for several months.

Look for one of those 2 to win it. (my predictions [;)])

*by the way, I don't give too much stock to charts considering "The Great I Am Still Is" only went to about #20 and still made the Top 10, but I think it can be semi-indicative. For example, don't expect the afore-mentioned TQ song to win.

Dinana -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/17/2008 10:14:09 AM)

I really love "The Great I Am Still Is" and I voted for it, but I really expect "It Means Just What It Says" to win SOTY.

youngartist -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/17/2008 11:52:07 AM)

Yea, I agree that it's probably the favorite, with "What We Needed" a runner-up.

Actually, ever since TQ singled "I Bring You Forgiveness," they've been guaranteed of top 10 placement for any song Daywind lists in their SN ballot ad, no matter its chart placement. That's a little unique, to have a charting-independent fan vote in that category.

I like a lot of your choices, I think 15 out of 18 we agree on! [:D]

I noticed that myself. TQ isn't stellar in radio, yet they have a loyal SN fanbase, no doubt about it.

There are also groups who have more #1 songs than fans [:D], but yet are largely absent from the winners list.

It could come down to just that TQ hasn't hired an expensive radio promoter, or at any rate one as expensive as the ones some others have.[;)]

youngartist -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/17/2008 5:02:29 PM)

That's possible. Help me out here, though, does Daywind not do anything with radio?

I believe they do all their radio promotion in house.

I don't know. The majority of songs that go #1 in Singing News are by quality/top tier groups. Or is it that you don't think a particular song was good enough to be #1.

Well I was mainly kidding, but I was really reflecting on the multiple #1 songs rather than on the number of fans. [:D] (i.e. some groups have scads of #1 songs...)

Some songs that are much weaker than others that never make the Top 10 go to #1 on a fairly regular basis, though.

That's what I thought, so that doesn't explain why other Daywind artists (i.e. Greater Vision, BF&A, Perrys) have better charting success. It must be that TQ needs a few more signature songs for their recordings. "Don't Let The Sandals Fool Ya" was a good one. Bring more on like that one and "One Holy Morning!"

Even with the excessive radio promotion, at the end of the day radio program directors still have a say in what gets programmed and what artists are played. Having a friend in radio, he explains that for him certain songs sound better on radio than others. There are certain songs that may go over well in a live setting but that same song just doesn't have the same flair for radio. I think "The Great I Am Still Is" was a good example of this. I really like this song (i've seen Triumphant perform it live), but it didn't seem to have the same impact on radio.

TQ has had a number of songs that I would consider "signature songs." It's my personal opinion that Daywind doesn't promote Triumphant as much as they should. There, I've said it - and I meant it!!!!

Somebody say "Glory!"

Dinana, you might want to step over to the church next door. (JUST KIDDING) [:D][;)]

Seaton -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/19/2008 7:23:54 AM)

Daywind has to be sweating a bit regarding Triumphant, considering Triumphant released a better (IMO) table project (Intermission) than their last Daywind release (You Gotta Love It). I am surprised Daywind wouldn't have wanted to market a recording like Intermission.

robertyork -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/19/2008 7:27:28 AM)

Do you think that may be the reason Daywind don't push projects for groups as much when they have so many table projects that are so good?

That's an idea! Maybe they don't like their artists having any table projects!
