phyl2 -> RE: Is this true? And if it is, what do you think of it? (6/14/2008 6:20:52 PM)

There are Christian organizations out there which seem to spend all their time pointing out other Christians, and proclaiming them to be not really Christians after all. The accused Christians range from Rick Warren, to Billy Graham, to Chuck Swindoll, and on and on. And, sad to say, they also will occasionally distort the truth in doing so. If you buy an NIV or TNIV, Zondervan does not get the money from the royalties, the International Bible Society does. And, they use that money to fund missionaries who work translating the Bible for language groups which still do not have the word of God in their language. What does Zondervan do with their money? You'd have to check their website to see if they give that information. I don't know what to tell you. I know I don't trust those websites that continually point out that you should not trust this or that prominent Christian, especially since when I have tried to substantiate their information, I have found that they are not always entirely truthful. As I understand it, Rupert Murdoch is a business man who bought Zondervan when it was struggling, to keep it going. What his motives are, I don't know. Is he a Christian? I don't know. I guess you'd have to take this issue to God in prayer and ask for His guidance. I wonder if this passage applies: quote:
Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else, and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will; the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Phillipians 1:12-18
