I have a few questions,
I understand how cut/sliced/diced tomatoes can get samonella, but how does a whole tomato become infected?
Does the bacteria stay only on the surface or is it actually in the meat of the tomato?
If it's only on the surface...would washing the produce eliminate it?
Our local McDonald's did post a sign they would not be serving tomatoes due to the outbreak of samonella.

That's a great question and got me curious as well. Everything I've found on the internet says that washing the tomatoes probably won't get rid of the contamination.

When I was produce, I don't use soap, that might be why washing it would not get rid of salmonella because we are really only rinsing it.
