Catching up:

I live about 15 miles from the Bush Bean company and usually go by it (through Chestnut Hill) when going to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Did y'all know that 95% of the baked beans sold in the U.S. are made by Bush? They really are good, but their latest attempt - Boston Baked Beans - can't touch my darling's great beans.

Mrs. Kerrlaw likes Adirondack chairs, but both of us prefer rockers. I was raised in rockers.

I agree with Mr. cranky about ordering the extra topping. As Barney Fife said: "If you let them go five miles over the limit, they'll want to go ten, if you let them go ten..." Have to nip these things in the bud.

cranky's supper sounds great. We love mixed white and yellow corn (I assume it's on the cob, which is the only way to eat corn).

Thanks for the compliment Ruth. I really regret that we were held up by the traffic because I wanted to spend more time with you and the others. There is never a traffic backup on that stretch of road. I learned later that it was a fatal accident in front of Smoky Mountain Knifeworks.

Lion: How do you like God Emperor of Dune? The worm is cool.

Country: Shouldn't you be making your own fireworks?

We used to camp in the KOA next to Patriot Park on July Fourth week a few years ago. They had a good fireworks display then.

Paul and Sam: Cindy says that Bruce Pearl's new contract is a really big one, so he doesn't need the money.

Guess you can hold onto the check as long as you want - it may be worth something someday.

Fatal accident? Man... We were in the store when it happened. We came out and saw the accident and my heart sank. I was hoping it wasn't fatal.

Face value at least I hope.

I prefer mostly crisp and less berries. Why ruin something with no nutritional value whatsoever with something like fruit?

I just don't get it.

It's the crisp part that throws me, I am picky about what crispy things I like. Now if it's some nice soft doughy crust, I'm with you guys.

As much as I love Ben and Jerrys, I love it best by itself. Less expensive cuts of ice cream will suffice on cobbler and pie.

BTW: Mrs. Kerrlaw wisely stocked on Bean and Jerrys at Food City - two for $6.00.

Well, at least Mrs. Kerrlaw is wise....

Less expensive cuts of ice cream...

You know how you picture people in your mind when you read a novel? When I read Duncan Idaho, I picture Harrison Ford as Han Solo.

BTW: There is a passage in one of the last two novels where the leader of the Bene Gesserit describes how her favorite oyster stew is made (it's like a dance). It is exactly how Mrs. K makes the oyster stew of her youth.

I have a great story about Mrs. K's oyster stew.

Oh, that's good! Yes, that's exactly how he is. I like Duncan and Gurney the best of all the characters so far. Oh, I guess Gurney won't be in this one.

Let's hear it. If you need dessert and some sleep first, okay. But we need to have the story.

Mrs. K loves her oyster stew better than anything. She can make it on a wintery Friday night and eat it every meal through Sunday night.

We started dating in July, so I got to hear about the oyster stew for a few months before she made it for me. I have never anticipated a meal so much and I can still see the sparkle in her eyes as she served it up.

It was the worst thing I have ever tasted. I love seafood of any kind, including soups and chowder, but this just tasted like hot, fishy milk.

I can also still see the shock and despair in her eyes as she returned from the powder room and saw the tell tale bits of oyster in the sink.

After a couple of years she forgave me enough to marry me.

We were on the way to the church to pick up our tickets right after it happened. Then as we were going back we saw them using the jaws of life to cut the person out of the SUV as we went back by. I assume the driver of the SUV was the fatality. That was the 2nd bad accident we came up on 2 days in a row. Thankfully we weren't in any of them. I'm so sorry for all of those involved.

You are making all kinds of crazy posts tonight, Kerrlaw!

Ok, dinner is over. It was great fun. The BBQ pork was fabulous! I'm sorry Kerrlaw but the corn was not corn on the cob. Sometimes corn on the cob is embarrassing to eat in front of company, so I just served it off the cob--is that called loose corn? "Don't go to the Cranky household--their corn is loose."

The dessert was very good. With the ice cream and the whipped cream, the berries and crisp were in the exact right proportions.

We all had an enjoyable evening!

I have an image of little kernels of corn running rampant in the Cranky household.

Oh, Cranky...gotta tell you this one.

Hubby doesn't like corn on the cob, but GB and I do, so I fix it and us girls eat it the "right" way and hubby cuts his off with a knife.

It bothers GB so bad! She says "NO! Don't eat it like a baby, Daddy!" and she'll just hammer him over it until dinner is over. What's so funny is that she wrinkles that little brow and points that little finger while she says it. LOL!
