Has anyone heard how Cindy Kerr is doing today with the leg injury? I don't think Kerr has posted today to let us know if she had to go to the ER for more treatment.

Cindy called the Doctor and was told that they would not re-stitch. She is to wash the cut with hydrogen peroxide, apply neosporin, and continue covering with a large bandage (but no more steri-strips). If it develops pus or streaks, she is to go back to the doctor.

Thank you all for your good advice and concern.

(I may look into the this calendula cream, it sounds better than superderm salve. I bet it would cure the mange.)

Well it sure cured mine.

Glad Cindy is doing well . . . and good to hear from you, Kerr!

Glad to hear that...she was told what I was thinking but I hesitate to give out advice. Of course my family accuse me of being hard nose...hubby claims that I require them to cough up a lung to get sympathy...I guess it is from my time working in the ICU...he would complain of a headache...I'd tell him to take something for it and an hour later he would still be complaining...I ask..did you take something like I suggested???...he would answer...no....then my reply was "go take the darn aspirin and then if it still hurts come back and we'll discuss it!!!"
I wasn't being unsympathetic...just frustrated he didn't take the aspirin...I mean I had patients on life support needing real care...come on!!!

I'm catching up in the thread.

Secret to perfect thick and juicy hamburgers (these were the size of Tony's burgers - 8 ounces):

Microwave the burgers until almost done and then put them on the grill for browning a few minutes before the guests arrive.

Mr. Cranky says THAT'S JUST WRONG!!! "There's got to be a law in Deuteronomy or somewhere that you aren't allowed to do that."

It's breaking the Dietary Law of the Grill!!!

(And I'm curious--did you really microwave them? Were they really good, or rubbery, or dried out?)

Hate to dispute Mr. cranky (and Deuteronomy)*, but they were the most tender, delicious hamburgers that I have ever eaten.

We have always had a problem getting them done on the inside without burning the outside. Since the microwave cooks inside out, they were just right on the inside, juicy, but fully cooked, with the grilled markings on the outside and and a great taste (we added just a little Dales marinade before putting them on the grill).

I suppose that y'all don't think it's right to get the potato salad and cole slaw from Food City and put it in our bowls, either.

*We consider ourselves under the New Covenant when it comes to grilling.

Kerr....Glad to hear about Cindy....Sometimes it takes a long time to recover from those wounds.....It took Carol several weeks after her back surgery. Had to clean wound every day with wound cleaner and apply new bandages....It finally healed from the inside out.

Yep...eldest son's dogbite finger is still healing...He is having to go to a hand specialist. Also has an attorney who is going to take his former employer to court...she hasn't paid any of his medical bills like she said she would!!!! It was her pitbull that bit him! Some wounds just take longer than others that's for sure.

Kerrlaw,

I hope Mrs. K's leg is ok! Did SharMar share her calendula cream with Mrs. K?

I had to read up on it. Fascinating stuff! Not only does it help wounds heal, it also helps with upset stomachs, ulcers, menstrual cramps, and hemorrhoids! You've got to get this stuff, Kerrlaw!!!

I have an upset stomach once in a great while, but I've managed to avoid those other conditions.

But I do plan to look into it. There is a show on our Southern Gospel station every Friday night about natural remedies. The Doctor on the show goes around to churches and speaks. They have just opened a store in Sevierville.

The store owner has a lot of moxie, he weighed over 400 pounds and opened a health food/natural healing store. I think he said that he had lost 200 pounds and now weighed 250.

I am losing weight.

The radiation made me lose my sense of taste. It is really hard to eat when you can't taste your food.

Your recipe sounds good. I read that it is important not to compact the meat when forming the burgers, so you are onto something.

I like Braggs Liquid Aminos as a healthful flavoring. It is good on vegetables, rice, meats, etc. Anywhere that you would use a flavoring.

Sorry to hear that Ellie. Are you hungry and then just stop eating because you can't taste it?

I am praying for you.

The first couple of days, I didn't realize what had happened. The first day, I went to bed, but couldn't sleep because I was so incredibly hungry. I finally had to get something to eat. I got cheddar cheese (I couldn't taste it) pepperoni (barely could taste it) and tortilla chips (couldn't taste any salt). It was strange, but I didn't think much of it.

The second night I was even more hungry that the first. I got stuff to eat, but couldn't taste it. It was then that I realized what was happening. Once I realized it, I made more of an effort to eat. So I am not as hungry, but it does make a huge difference.

We had pizza, and I couldn't taste it at all. I got down one piece, but that was it. I can't eat a hotdog to save my life right now. It has NO flavor and the texture without flavor is disgusting! I just tried a chocolate chip cookie and was very disappointed. I couldn't taste it. But I wasn't tempted by them. I can taste ice cream a little though.

Well Mike, I just got home from my jury duty indoctrination. This circuit court handles both criminal and civil cases, so I will be in the jury pool for both on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Then I was chosen to be on the grand jury which sits on Mondays and Tuesdays. So much for looking for a job so I ccan go back to school.

I'm not sure how busy the Grand Jury is in Sevier County. In my county it meets one or two days every three months. Sevier county is probably about twice as much.

Since most cases get settled or pled, you might not have to serve at all.

If you want to get out, just tell the judge that you are glad to be chosen because you can tell if someone is lying just by looking at them.

It is supposed to be, but as to how long it will last... that is an individual thing.

Ok. I pray that your loss of taste will be VERY temporary! I hope you are able to find clever ways to get all the nutrients your body needs right now.

Ooooooh! I'll have to remember that one....

I've been called up 3 times for jury duty: municipal (didn't have to serve because I was 6 hours away at college at the time); superior court (called in twice but was never sat on a jury); US District court (never got called in).

My mom however must get jury duty of some sort every couple months. I've seriously never known anyone who gets called as often as she does...
