ta_mosquito -> Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/18/2008 3:47:09 PM)

The Zohan thread got me wondering...

Which actor's "comedy" do you consider to be worse: Adam Sandler's (Little Nicky, Happy Gilmore, Don't Mess with the Zohan) or Jim Carrey's (Ace Ventura, Cable Guy, Dumb & Dumber)?

Let's discuss Sandler vs. Carrey. [:)]

uncabeeil -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/18/2008 3:52:53 PM)

Worse in what way? Sandler's comedies are raunchier, Carey's are usually dumber (no pun intended). Sandler relies on what I call toilet humor, i.e. things we snickered at when we were 12. I have to confess that "Big Daddy" is a personal favorite, as is "50 First Dates". I can't think of Jim Carey movie I liked. Even his Riddler was too over the top.

I can't stand either one. I haven't really seen much of them, but from the preview clips on TV, I think they both appeal to the young teenage mentality. Just my opinion...............

Sorry, those guidelines are way too restricting. [8D]

I'm going to assume this is all a joke, and that you accidentally included Carrey's name in comparison to Sandler.

Nope. I find both of their comedy movies to be objectionable/bad.

So, why do you think Carrey is better? (Or do you think Sandler is better? I can't tell.)

9drtr -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/18/2008 6:32:25 PM)

Who's worse, Hitler or Torquemada? They're both so bad the difference isn't worth discussing.

everythingat -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/18/2008 7:17:07 PM)

I don't think either one's comedy can be compared...because they're both mostly terrible. Dumb and Dumber's about the cream of the crop of the two, which isn't saying very much. If we compare their drama...Carrey comes out on top. Adam Sandler had Punch Drunk Love, and if you want to include Big Daddy...I don't, but if you want to. While Carrey has The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which are the superior films of the two. So...Carrey.

Karaboo2 -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/18/2008 7:48:02 PM)

I can't stand either of them!

Ace Ventura puts Carrey above Sandler beyond measure.

Carrey is better, in my opinion, because of his physical emotions. It's kind of, but not exactly, similar to how I felt when watching Jerry Lewis.

All Adam Sandler has is jokes about breasts and toilet humor. In fact, most actors/comedians offer the same style. It's boring, distasteful, and merely stupid. Bob Saget is a perfect example of that.

horsepill -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/18/2008 11:44:57 PM)

Gotta go with Jim Carrey (as the one I like better). Having enjoyed his work in films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Majestic, and he made a great Grinch & enjoyed his Riddler, too.

Adam Sandler, for who is worse, for I can take him or leave him. Though I do like his Happy Gilmore (the fight with Bob Barker is classic).

But in my opinion there are others raunchier than Carrey and Sandler, such as Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Which they can be funny, but can't resist going to the toilet for humor. How sad.

Brandy -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 3:00:07 AM)

Sandler is worse in my opinion with relying on toilet humor and sexuality.

I have yet to see Sandler in a serious-ish movie that I didn't hate him in.

I loved "Eternal Sunshine", "Truman Show" and "The Majestic" w Carrey. And that Dick and Jane movie w Tea Leoni? Liked it.

Sandler I like "Big Daddy" and... that's about it really. My husband likes him though.

We did see Zohan and were really disappointed that it boiled down to him 'servicing' old ladies while pursuing the young girl. I do love me some John Turturro though.

ta_mosquito -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 9:56:42 AM)

Will Farrell - oh yeah, I forgot about him. I've never gone to any of his movies. (I don't think I've seen any of Sandler's, either, actually. No, wait - I did see The Wedding Singer.)

There are some names you just stay away from.

I agree about Carrey's more serious films, although the only one I've seen is The Truman Show (which I liked).

davemiller7 -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 10:23:23 AM)

Oh, for the good old days of Jack Benny (my personal favorite), Red Skelton, Bob Hope, Sid Caesar, et al. They were funny, could make you laugh until the tears rolled down your cheeks, and they wouldn't get an "R" rating doing it.

Sandler and to a lesser extent, Carrey are disgusting and can't hold a candle to the great ones.

stellaluna -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 10:27:25 AM)

I absolutely cannot watch Jim Carrey. [:'(] So I'm going to go with Adam Sandler. And truly, I think Sandler has a wider range...Carrey just always seems over the top to me, no matter what role he's in.

Auben -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 10:27:53 AM)

Sandler is decent in Punch-Drunk Love, although I don't think he has quite the range of Carrey in Eternal Sunshine.

cinwood -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 10:28:36 AM)

I'm glad to know someone besides me cannot stand Sandler. Carrey can be very funny, but he lost me as a fan after "Me, Myself and Irene" - I sat through 15 minutes of that trash and left the theatre.

jodavi -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 10:34:07 AM)

I like them both in some movies and I don't like them both in some movies. Like any other actors....some movies are just bad. Even Jack Nicholson who's a great actor have done dumb movies. I liked Sandler on Spanglish and Reign on Me and Carrey, I liked him on Truman, Man on the moon. Actually, the first movie that I've seen with Jim was movie made for TV was Doing time on Maple Street and he played an alcoholic.

My friends and I did that at the first Ace Ventura - walked out after 15-20 minutes. I never trusted Jim Carrey's comedies after that.

redeemedsaint -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 1:29:05 PM)

I can't stand Jim Carrey. He drives me up the wall. Adam Sandler I can tolerate.

He's animated.

It's better than repetitive, lame jokes.

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 3:47:12 PM)

He was really animated in Horton Hears a Who. [8D]

1love1God1way -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/19/2008 7:13:52 PM)

Sandler is soooo much worse. Every one of his movies is the same plot with the same jokes and the same supporting actors. . . and they are all terrible.

Jim Carrey, I love his animation. His physical comedy is genius, and much of what you see is purely improv.

I am pretty involved with the deaf community in my area. Deaf people love Jim Carrey, because he doesn't even need to speak for you to know exactly what he means. So much of sign language and such is facial expressions and creating imagery with your body. That's what Carrey does best.

edlove50 -> RE: Who's Worse: Sandler or Carrey? (6/20/2008 9:25:39 AM)

There really are no funny comedians out there any more. I have listened to several for about 5 minutes to give them a chance, but then their routine starts to include foul language, sex jokes, put downs, and personal political views. I miss the classics like Jackie Gleason, Red Skelton, Dick Van Dyke, Sid Ceasar, Bob Hope, etc. Maybe they are a throwback to the old days but their jokes were clean and they knew how to make you laugh without including the messy trash todays so called comedian wannabes use. It's sad. Buy a dvd that includes any of the old true professionals and truly laugh.
