I'm OK with tattoos as long as they're tasteful. Hubby doesn't have any and doesn't care to. I'm OK with that, too.

Piercings: one ear is OK, but more than that - and in other locations - is just too weird for me. I suppose it wouldn't be a deal-breaker (if I were single). However, I do draw the line when a guy wears earrings like THIS. (That boy is 16, by the way.)

I don't have any tattoos nor piercings. (I did get my ears pierced in junior high, but they closed up almost right away, and I didn't want to go through the pain of re-piercing them and dealing with them.) They don't interest me.

it does not bother me if a man has a tattoo or 2 as long as they are not all over the entire body. an arm or ankle or something is ok. i do not care for piercings on a man at all. BUT, it would not necessarily be a deal breaker if a man had a piercing if they have other qualities i am looking for as well. there is more to a man than surperficial things. plus, i have a small tattoo on my lower back i got a few years ago that is very pretty. i would sure hate to think i might be "undateable" because of that!

I don't mind tatoos if they're tasteful and they're not all over his body. I have one around my ankles so how could I complain, right?! Mine are tasteful and in a location where I can cover them up if need be. (Like when I'm playing a concert.)

Piercings - I don't like them at all. Most definitely a turn-off for me.

hmmm.....what I'm getting from comparing the two forums is that guys are less tolerant of gals with tattoos, whereas gals are more open to guys with tattoos, and there are few guys who can "pull off" wearing a tattoo effectively.

Do women have to worry about being able to "pull off" wearing a tattoo as well?

I don't worry about it at all. I like them. But, mine aren't quite so obvious and if I had, say, an armband or something that you can't help but notice or stare at, then I could see how it could be a turn-off to some. Even still, if a guy gets hung up on it, that's certainly his perrogative. Of course, I have perrogatives too ya know. [;)]

I don't care for tattoos, don't have one, nor does my wonderful DH. In fact, I don't think I have ever dated someone with a tattoo ... the tattoo issue never arose for me, frankly.

I have no objection to women having their ears pierced; mine are. Men? Not my cup of tea. Body piercing? Never ever ... ick.

Simply put : My husband has two nice-sized tattoos and wants more. Since he's my husband that means it's not a deal breaker :). Then again *I* have tattoos so I couldn't be a hypocrite lol

It is an interesting term that I only have encountered in this particular thread among all the others regarding tattoos. I take it to mean that the person has to fit with someone else's idea of what a tattooed person is supposed to look or act like in order for the tattoo to "work." I don't really understand this. I guess my attitude is that if you don't think a tattoo "fits" then don't get one. As far as a tattoo on another person - - that's their business, not mine. Whatever floats their boat, eh?

I thought it was a common enough term that it wouldn't confuse anyone, but I guess not [&:] By "pull off" I mean some people look good with tattoos (or long hair or earrings or jeans and a polo shirt or baseball caps or whatever fashion style you're talking about). Other people look awkward or out of place. There are things that I look absolutely ridiculous in, but other people look great in, because they don't match my personality or the rest of my style. I didn't say someone shouldn't get a tattoo if they want one, just that I don't think everyone looks good with them.

...... Nope. I have a close friend who has a naked woman.... I keep teasing him to go get her a bathing suit... I think it's inappropriate when it's visible during church activities and functions.... Maybe someday he will fix her up... but that's between him and God...

10 years ago I would've said, "EW!!! blech. why would you do that!?!?!?!?"

But 10 years will change a person. Not only do I not mind them, but I have 2-3 (depending on how you count), and am marrying a man with LOTS.

When did I change my mind? Probably college. I worked with a man who had the triquetra on his forearm. I really liked it. I thought it was really cool. But that was it. Not lots of them, no colors, nothing fancy. Fast forward about 5 more years. I was working with a man who had some on his upper arms. I learned his stories from them. They are his life history and they really are sentimental and meaningful to him. He now has almost full sleeves. (It is him who I am marrying.)

I had decided in college that a small dove on my ankle would be cool. So I got one in 2005.

Tattoos that have bad connatations: depends. If the person has repented of those days and no longer lives that life, nothing wrong with them. Again, it's his story and history and part of his testimony for some people (Another man I work with has those types of tattoos). Every man has a past, tattoos are just another way of showing that past.

My fiance has his ex's name in a giant heart on his arm. It's part of his past. It doesn't bother me at all.

oh ... piercings: I don't mind earrings. Nose rings and eyebrow rings are weird on men. Not a fan of nipple rings. And piercing unmentionables is just crazy. I disagree with tongue rings for a myriad of hygeine reasons.

I think I prefer men with just earrings. I can't think of a body piercing that looks good on a man.

I don't think they are a fashion trend, but definitely more acceptable than they used to be. They aren't as taboo as they once were, which makes people who do things for shock value go more extreme - like body mutilation and branding and such. blech!!!

I hope they aren't a fashion trend. There are going to be some really regretful people in 20 years when they realize their trend following is permanant and they don't like it anymore.

One thing about tattoos .... think about it a lot and don't get flash, get something personal that is original and means somethign to you.

My husband has 2, but one was removed mostly. You can still see it.

I don't mind them, but he does! LOL! He also had lots of peircing when he was younger, and I have none. LOL!

Neither bug me, but I don't like it when people have so much that there is more tattoo than skin. Also, I think people need to think about tatoos and what they want to do for a job. Many companies are conservative, and you can't work there if you can't cover them.

I don't think I will ever get one. If I really want one, I will stick with Henna. It last a couple weeks, then I can change it. :)

But if I did, I would never get a persons name, unless it was my son/daughter.

A funny story, a co-worker wanted a tattoo when she turned 50. She was going to get it on her upper thigh, but chose to get it on her lower back. She said in 20 years it will have moved to her upper thigh. LOL!

especially if you work with customers or in the public eye!

I'd imagine spies probably have to have extra eyeballs to do their spying properly. What better place than hidden in a tatoo. Ya just never know. [;)]
