Debit card. But we usually keep some cash on us for very small purchases and things that do not accept debit or credit cards.

I'm a strange one. I've spent the last 3 years training myself that I don't need my credit cards. I've used my debit card for everything. Now that I feel I have my finances under control and can keep track of my spending and not overspend, I'm switching to using a credit card that earns me points. I'm only using it for groceries/gas right now. Two things I believe I can monitor best and can keep under a certain amount. I automatically subtract my budgeted amount from my checking account when I get paid, that way it's already taken into account and what's left in my checking account after bills is mine to spend. And I keep track of what I put on my credit card so that it doesn't go over my budgeted amount. I've been doing this for about 3 months I think and have been doing a pretty good job. I'm going to switch from a points card to a mileage card within the next month and earn airline miles so I can start traveling to see family more often. I rarely use cash. I hate it. I only use it if I know I'm going someplace that is cash only.

a combination of cash and debit. I still use my credit card for occasional online purchases and if I travel I will use it to rent a car/hotel room so I wont have massive holds on my checking account.

I try to keep cash on me to use when I can. Otherwise I use the hubby's debit card. Neither of us have ever or will ever own credit cards.

I pay for everything by check. I rarely have cash on me and won't get a debit card because I'm too afraid I'll misuse it when shopping online. Lucy

I use my debit card a lot as it's easier than remembering to keep taking out cash (and I spend cash so much easier than if it's on card). I've got a Visa debit card to use online if I need it.

Actually . . . I used to pay for everything via check. But over the past few months, I've noticed a shift in that . . . I pay my bills and as many things as I can by check; unless it's a small amount - in which case, I will pay via cash or debit card. I pay for online purchases with my debit card. I also keep said debit card with a very low available balance and transfer money into it as needed. edited: for clarity

I voted "credit" but use a check card tied to my bank account. If used as a credit card instead of debit, it avoids the atm fees.

Credit card for the vast majority since we earn points. (Our debit cards up here don't do that.) We've got over $400 in reward points accrued! We have our telephone, internet/cable, etc. come out of our credit card automatically. Some places don't allow that, so the mortgage, insurance, etc. come straight out of checking. We stay within our budget and pay the card off every month.

Do not have any credit cards. Pay bills and major purchases with a check. Use cash for anything else.

Cash whenever possible. I find I will spend less and think more about whether or not I really need the item if I'm spending my cash.
