Billboy -> Ernie Haase & Signature Sound Summer 08 Tour (6/21/2008 9:58:23 AM)

We went to Evansville, IN, last night to see EH & SSQ summer tour concert, and we were not disappointed. They always draw well in Evansville and always seem to do an inspired performance there. Ernie and Ryan Seaton are both from Evansville, which probably helps in both cases. Last night Ernie even did a duet with his brother, Jarrod Haase, singing "Who Am I". Ernie said his mother always asked if they could do that at one of SSQ concerts, and last night they made it happen. They had Wayne Haun, who I normally think of as a record producer, traveling with them and playing piano, and he is a very good pianist. They did a mixture of their older stuff and songs from a brand new cd called "Influenced". Ernie said it was made just for the Summer Tour and was only being sold on the tour at this time. This project is older songs, and they did it around 2 of the old style omni-directional mics, (like some other folks, especially Dixie Echoes are doing). They also used the 2 mic setup last night for these songs. A favorite of mine at the performance was "Walk With Me", and another one I really liked was a song Bill Gaither wrote years ago when he was still a school teacher called "The Old Fashioned Meeting". Some of these seemed to be done with only Wayne on the piano and no added soundtracks. They did their choreography on some of their regular songs, and others they mostly stood flat-footed and sang. There was also occasional lighting effects, but we liked all of it. It was all tastefully done, imho, and the large crowd seemed to like it. They even did a bit of antics on the songs with 2 mics, switching back and forth between mics, depending on who had a solo part and who had harmonies, but it was no different than what a lot of the older groups used to do. We enjoyed this concert even more than we did last year's "Get Away Jordan" concert tour, which was at the same venue (Ryan Seaton's home church). I wish they had sang "John In the Jordan", and "Stand By Me", but there was plenty of good singing and a good variety for the night. Ernie also witnessed to the audience. There has been a lot said and written about EH & SSQ, some negative and some positive, but the facts are: they can sing, they have a great Christian Spirit, they provide good, wholesome entertainment along with Christian witness, and they seem to be successful in drawing a crowd and sending them home happy. The crowd at the product table was about the biggest one I have ever been in, and all of SSQ were out there in the mix. We would go back and see them again tomorrow if that was an option. I hope others who attend one of their Summer Tour concerts will add to this thread with their reports.
