BlackCapnHarlock -> A Christian "300" stylized and graphic Bible Battles (6/21/2008 6:57:02 PM)

What bible battles would you like to see in a "300" style . . . showing the passion and emotion that the faithful had in the Old Testament?

Here are some battles where the blood shed was high and the victory important.

1. Gideon and his 300 men slaughtering the Midianites.

2. Joshua's bloody conquest of the Holy Land. Very brutal battles.

3. The battles of Joab and David . .would love to see David in a "300" style slay a beast like Goliath and his mighty men crush the Philistines.

4. Jehu the damager . .. . wrought a bloody end to the Omri dynasty.

5. Samson, nuff said, his hip and thigh slaughter with a jaw bone of a donkey had to be a pure blood bath.

We fail to comprehend the blood shed that was taken to establish Israel. That when GOD ordered them to kill every man, woman, child, infant, and animal down to the creeping roaches, that men and women gave their lives and took many lives to get this done.

I think Gideon's 300 are little bit better than Leonidas' since they had HaShem (GOD) on their side, who could defeat them?

What say ye ????

Is it gore for gore's sake or to prove a point? In the "Passion" it was to show the depth of Christ's physical suffering. In "Saving Private Ryan" it was to show the cost of freedom.

How about for truth's sake?

The movie "The Pathfinder" was supposed to be violent and brutal and it stunk and bombed. It's been a disaster even so bad it' got pulled from cable because it reeked so odiously.

It's not violence for violence sake, but showing the faith, the purpose, the strength, and the brute power that the Israelites had in the OT in covanent with GOD. GOD never did violence for violence sake, it was all for a purpose as stated in Dueteronomy chapter 7.

"300" is a good movie because of freedom that it represents democracy, and liberty in the face of tyranny.

There are similar battles in the OT and even greater ones would be good to see a stylized OT battles.

I vote for Joshua and David.

But I want the movie to have the good cinematography and lighting that 300 had. Please. [:)]

I know that war is bloody, but sometimes movies go overboard. Ever heard of Sam Peckinpaw's (sp?) movies.

Yes.

Who would really want to watch Isrealites smashing infants heads in with rocks, and slaughtering women and children, all at God's request? Especially if this is done in the 300 style, where basically 90% of the film is shot in annoying slow motion to try to make everything look more "dramatic" and all the dialogue is composed of trite cliches.

It'd be really hard to film the mass slaughtering of women, children, and infants in a manner that doesn't make God's chosen people seem like barbaric Judeo-fascists using religion to justify genocide. I guess you could try to fix it with dialogue, maybe (i.e. maybe have the Israelite soldier say something like, "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you" just before slitting a 3 year old girl's throat, in front of her mother, grandmother and siblings, before slaughtering each of them one by one as well -all in slow motion with "sexy" cgi back drops and NIN playing in the background), but even then it would be a tough sell.

It wouldn't be a very good evangelizing tool either. If an atheist wanted to make Christianity look bad, all they would have to do is make a literal film adaptation of the sections of the OT that Sunday schools usually don't teach.

300 is an over the top, stylized, comic book version of a reality that exists absolutely nowhere except for within the confines of its own pages. It came into existence not to make any point about history or democracy, but rather because Frank Miller likes to draw naked guys killing people and wanted to do a throw back to the Gladiator films of the 1950s.

As history, it's completely laughable, and as a serious "representation of democracy in the face of tyranny" it undermines any real point it could make by flattening its characters into mindless, black and white, automotons.

Not that there's anything wrong with this. I didn't like the film version of 300 (I liked the graphic novel fine, but I don't think it's Miller's best work). I loved the film version of "Sin City" (something which was aiming for a similar goal with a similar aesthetic), but I really don't think 300 would be a good template if you want to take the Bible seriously -either in its message or its validity as a historical document.

I thought 300 was a very good movie. I am well aware of the historical innaccuracies, though to be fair, we have no good accounts of that battle. Even the accounts of Herodotus are likely embellished. I knew the movie was based on a graphic novel, which was based on another movie, so it wasn't going to be a documentary. Frankly, I have time understanding the purists having a fit. If you are getting your history from a movie, that is pretty sad.

I just liked looking at it. [:D]

It was on cable this past weekend.

I found it to be a good movie, in the same manner as The 13th Warrior.

I dunno about the brutality of scripture being splashed across the big screen - although if it makes Christians look bad, you'd think they would've done it by now.[8|]

I do think they should film the Crusades in the 300 style using the books by Lawhead.

They would have absolutely no problem with it if it wasn't Christian based.

Rather than something actually Biblical, I'd rather see the story of Judas Maccabeus. It was a legitimate fight for freedom, it would be pro Israeli, and it's a story we should probably know better than we do.
