I got my machine out a couple weeks ago to make the pillow, and it's still sitting out in the kitchen. I'm going to make some kind of blanket or quilt for my best friend's baby shower in a few weeks, and I'm also going to look for an easy pattern for a tote I can carry my laptop and study materials in.

Rachel, I made a tote bag for my laptop and stuff to use as a carry-on bag, it was quite easy. I'll see if I can draw a simple diagram and then you could just make it whatever size you want. Do you know the basics of making a bag with a lining?

Ok, I knew I had seen a good tutorial somewhere and HERE it is... I used basically the same technique to make mine, but I used "classier" looking fabrics and did a decorative band on the top of the bag.

Not a problem! There are tons of free patterns and tutorials out there, I haven't bought a pattern in ages. THESE are next up on my list...whenever I get a spare moment for sewing.

I love the sew momma sew website! They have great tutorials! That bag doesn't look like it has a lining though. It does look like it would be a great grocery sack- a remnant piece of some home decor fabric would work great.

I had been trying to finish a vest I bought material for last year for hubby, but wouldn't ya know it, right when I go to finish it, the buttonholer on my sewing machine goes kaput. So now I am sewing pockets on the diaper stacker I made a few years ago. I didn't want pockets then, just the stacker, well now I want pockets. Then I'm going to put lace on the bottom of one set of curtains, sew up some basic curtains for the basement, and if I still have extra time before baby comes, I have been dying to make myself a purse. I can't stand the look of purses these days. I bought some good patterns at a 99cent sale a few weeks back and am eager to sew. I have the fabric I need, just gotta find the time.

Actually the pattern was given to us, but yes, I used a pattern. We had Nadia's 'stuff' on her changing table for as long as I can remember. We'll still have a roll of diaper liners and a box of cloth wipes, but much better than diapers, wipes, roll, lanolin, etc.... And if anyone is watching the baby, disposables are right there. I'll have to check out your blog to see how you did your changing table. I always look for better solutions than the one we've got now.

Anyone know of a reason that a sewing machine would run fine going forward, but be a mess, (tension-wise) when in reverse? It worked fine when I used it last week (sewing denim for heaven's sake), but won't cooperate tonight. I've unthreaded and rethreaded the top and the bobbin several times, tried a different bobbin, switched needles, etc. It did this to me a few weeks ago but unthreading and rethreading it did the trick last time. I use a Singer 401A- it was serviced maybe 3 months ago and is in otherwise great working order.

I'm working on some curtains right now :). I have a newer Singer (I think the ancient one are better) and I have trouble with the thread getting clumped underneath. I've heard lots of others say the same. Sometimes the thread bunches underneath whether I go forward or backward.

Those are adorable, Rachel! What a fantastic idea! I'll have to do the same thing, Target has long sleeve t-shirts for $2.99(or something cheap like that) and I have a huge fabric stash.

My mom used to make them for me when I was little. I was looking at a boutique catalog and they had similar fall dresses for $40. I thought, "Sheesh! Why am I not making these myself?" Target and WM both have those cheapie tees, in long and short sleeves. WM didn't have black in little girls, so I had to get little boys. The girls' tees have the cute gather on the shoulders.

I'm thinking that Gabby might get an entire wardrobe of them, they will be super cute with thick tights.

No, kidding! I'm going to make a ton for Isabel, too! They are so cheap and easy! I thought about making some a tad shorter (like knee length) to wear with leggings, and making some short-sleeved ones with a dropped waist and shorter skirt (not cutting off the tee, just letting it hit her hips).
