Thank you both. I have been told a few times already to refuse cytotec. I'm doing some googling right now, but am just wondering why you both have suggesed not using it. (Just so I have an answer if they ask me why I don't want it, and for pure curiousity.) [:)]

PrincessDonna -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 11:43:24 AM)

Cytotec does not have FDA approval for the purposes of labor induction. I can't remember what it is approved for, but hopefully someone else will remember.

KatMack -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 11:43:38 AM)

Stephanie, Two of my three have been induced because of bp issues. Marshall was with pitocin after my water broke while on bedrest. Be prepared to possibly need an epidural with a pit induction. Those contractions came much harder and faster than with my other two babies!

Kenna Rose was induced with Cytotec and by breaking my water. I'm one of the lucky ones to not have problems with a Cytotec induction- do avoid it if possible. The gave me the first dose of cytotec vaginally. When my midwife showed up, she was fuming that they'd done that without telling her. She switched me to taking the Cytotec orally. The Cytotec started the contractions and prepared my cervix. After 12 hours, they broke my water and Kenna joined us just about five hours later perfectly healthy and fine.

Sarah, praying for you today!

--Kat

Cytotec info, from THIS site...

Stephanie is in Canada, so it might be a bit of a different story here.

I was given Cytotec when I was induces to deliver Faith, but had no problems. I had never heard of it before. If i was to be induced again, I would ask for cervadil.

Even if it *is* approved for induction, it is not required for induction ...

Stephanie, if you are told about it and refuse, and they want to know why ... #1 it was originally designed to help treat stomach ulcers ... #2 it is known to cause uterine tearing and intense hemorrhaging, thus increasing the need for major medical interventions ... #3 my midwife says to stay away from it like the plague ... and she's willing to drive with me to beat up any MD who tries to force it on you!!!! [;)]

Cervadil is much gentler and IS approved for cervical ripening for labour induction.

waiting2be_called -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 1:02:22 PM)

I've written down cytotec with a big "no" beside it, and cervadil with a check mark...hopefully that will make sense to me tomorrow.

I am praying for all of you! ((((Stephanie)))) ((((Sarah)))) & ((((Brandy))))

Brandy, I am praying that you already have a baby in your hands!

Karaboo2 -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 2:08:04 PM)

Well Stephanie, I think I PM'd you my numbers ... if you get confused, tell the staff to call me -- I'll set them straight!!! (Even if I have to drive a few hours to do it in person ... they'll know better than to mess with a preggy mom of - almost - 5)

Yachaddm -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 4:44:04 PM)

Sarah, thinking about you and praying for you and your little guy!

Jess, I read your post in the pregnancy thread, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you- it sounds like you have a great doctor. I can't believe you're 4cm and aren't having any contractions! Maybe you'll have one of those rare, painless labors! [;)]

Brandy, I hope you're too busy with your sweet little girl to update! [:)]

Stephanie, hoping things go well enough to stave off an induction, and thinking of you while you're on bed rest! Have you found things to occupy your time?

waiting2be_called -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 6:25:24 PM)

Kara, I have your numbers on my phone. Thanks! Hopefully I'll be okay.

Megan, I have pretty well just been online...chatting, lurking, doing puzzles, watching youtube and movie trailers on apple.com...I've been pretty relaxed, but thank goodness I don't have to do this for a long period of time.

manda59 -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 6:41:47 PM)

Steph,

Been to the official Doctor Who website at all? [:D]

BBC Doctor Who

It's pretty neat for browsing. I can also give you the URL of a really good Doctor Who forum if you like! [:D]

GREAT way to pass bedrest time, lol.

waiting2be_called -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/24/2008 7:20:52 PM)

Yes, it's another one of my homepages [8D].
Send me a PM with the forum though please...I'd gladly lurk around.

This whole bed rest thing is kind of tough at times, just to get used to I mean...

Flintejae -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/25/2008 12:31:54 AM)

I have News!!!!!

Beautiful little Isabelle was born at 3:00am. She's 7lbs 11oz! Brandy sounds exhausted, but good. She had a really rough delivery. The epidural stopped working twice and she said her experience with pitocin was 'horrible'.

Keep their breastfeeding experience in your prayers. She sounds very hopeful (the lactation consultant will be in tomorrow), but Isabelle has tongue thrust. I guess it's sabotaging the very thing she wants because she sticks her tongue out and loses the latch.

Brandy promised to post her story some time soon. I told her about the drama with the threads so she won't be surprised when she comes on.

Kath -> RE: Baby Watch--June '08 (6/25/2008 12:39:09 AM)

Thanks for posting Janine!!!
