Dobson has some new words to say today about McCain and Obama both. Has anyone been able to hear the speech? I'd like to be able to find it in a text somewhere so I could read it for myself.

Also, here is an interesting article about reconciling God's commands and government:

I wonder if this kind of thinking is what Obama shares?

My best argument against homosexual marriage has nothing to do with the Bible or sin, but with nomenclature. The word "marriage" should be reserved for man and woman. The state can give you a truck license, and they can give you a motorcycle license, but it is foolish to argue that a truck has to be called a "motorcycle" in order for their to be true fairness among drivers.

As to covenants, the Bible has covenants besides just the marriage covenant. There were covenants between nations, between groups of two or more men, etc. Back then, there was no difference between "government" and society. Today we have chosen to make social "marriage" part of our government institutions, and I have no objection with making other types of covenants part of our government institutions. I think, though, that we should take a long, hard look at whether people want to enter into marriage "covenants" or simply marriage "contracts". Maybe we should allow for both types, and simply call them by different names.

How about the marriage covenant be performed only by a qualified member of the clergy while a marriage contract be performed by a justice of the peace or some such legal secular authority? Whichever, the marriage should only be between one man and one woman.

In reading through this post I'm reminded of a scripture that seems to sum up where we are as a nation.

"In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes. Judges 21:25. All this lead to major disaster!

This is where we are as a nation. Yes, even Christians are doing what WE feel is right. We allow murder of unborn children and called it abortion. We've justified it by saying a women's body is her own and that justifies anything. We're doing the same with gay marriage too. We are justifying it in many ways but that will never change God's commands on those that practice homosexuality. We've compromised GOD'S Word and made up our own laws, morals and values based upon what WE feel is right and wrong. Our morals and our values have declined far from what God commanded and we are justifying it all.

I've noticed a great apathy in the minds and hearts of many Christians. We have sat by passively and allowed an our freedoms to be taken away. We no longer have a freedom of speech, at least not if it is not PC. If I stand on God's word and speak out against homosexuality (the act not the person) then I'm guilty of hate speech. We have no freedom of speech anymore regardless of what our constitution says. My opinion may offend there fore it is considered hate speech even though it is God's Word and law that I'm following. Too many compromising Christians are riding the fences as not to offend those that should be offended. I wonder how long God will continue to hold off his judgment of America? We are no better than Sodom and Gomorrah, only bigger.

Also, what does "bring them [abortionists] down" mean?

Kill them... What did you think it meant? Give them a pat on the back for a job well done?

John

Hmmm, if God is planning on killing these people, it doesn't look like he's in much of a hurry.

I trust you're not calling for humans to help God speed things up, right?

G d did not object to this request of David's:
Ps 109:
6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
16 Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
