How do you view Don Imus' latest controversial remark?
Misunderstood or Offensive?

Don Imus is and always has been a loudmouthed bigot. He knew exactly what he was saying and there was no sarcasm involved. he asks what color the guy was and we're supposed to buy that he was being sarcastic?

I have never understood his appeal.

Twas double speak, so he could make it mean what he wanted.

Even if he wants to claim he was being sarcastic, I'm wondering why he'd be sarcastic that way when something similar caused him all the issues before. [8|]

Don't buy it. I have heard the tape. I was shocked to hear what he said, but there doesn't seem to be the uproar like there was the last time he did this.

You know, it does not surprize me what Imus says anymore because any idiot can say what he pleases and call it radio. Oh, please...

And why waste your time talking about this clown anyways--he's not worth the bandwidth anymore. We need to get to some serious problems, really.

Nearly every black comedian on the DefJam comedy show has made the same type of point.

Guy gets arrested six times he must be black.

I am not a mind reader so I have no idea why Imuss said what everyone thinks he said. I am not even sure he said what everyone thinks he said.

I do have some ideas, though:

1. Imus knew that whatever he said would get him in hot water.

2. Imus has been in the radio business such a long time that he is well aware that he is on his way out, for any number of reasons. He deliberately said what he said in such an unclear way as to make a point and start a debate/ expand the debate about the freedom of speech on the radio/ in the media. Clearly what he said could be, and was interpreted in a number of ways dependent on the listener's pre-conceived notions not only about what is said, but by who it is said by.

The only one who really cares is the <cough> Rev. Al Sharpton.... Makes you wonder if Al is paying Imus to say such things...

John

Exactly!!

Even though we have the 1st Ammendment, broadcasters like him, Wendy Williams and many other shock jocks has responsiblities as well.

Until I seen this post I thought he was still FIRED from his last remarks.

How did that happen?

Did he need ratings or something? If he says something every 6 months or so, he keeps hisself in the news.

And people listening for the next dumb remark he is gonna say.

There is also the publicity factor that has to be taken into consideration!

BTW, Wendy Williams? Does she have an "O" as a middle initial? Any relation to the Plasmatics and duct tape?

If any of you guys ever listened to Imus you would know that he was making a remark slamming law enforcement more than anything. I used to listen to him about 15 or so years ago when I was going through my phase of listening to all talk radio.
