CONSISTENCY IN TERMINOLOGY is VERY important if we are to quote the Scriptures correctly. Yes, I believe that there are MANY antichrists walking the earth and have been down through the years since Yeshua` was first born!
The word is only used 5 times in Scripture: twice in I John 2:18, once in I John 2:22, once in I John 4:3, and once in 2 John 7. Here are the verses:
1 John 2:18
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1 John 2:22
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

What these verses do is define the term: It is NOT referring to a single individual, and it is referring more to a "spirit of antichrist" or an "attitude of antichrist." The word is well defined in I John 2:22, I John 4:3, and 2 John 7: It is one who (1) does not believe that Yeshua` (Jesus) is the Messiah (the Christ) and (2) does not believe that Yeshua` the Messiah has come in the flesh. They are also said to deny the Father and the Son.
We have a whole WORLD full of such people these days!!! Even some who SAY they believe that Jesus is the Christ, really don't know what that means or what it implies, but in their defense, how COULD they? Today, most Gentile (non-Jewish) believers are SO FAR REMOVED from the Jewish roots of their faith, that they don't know what the Messiah means to the Jews! They don't know how the Messiah is portrayed in the prophecies of the Tanakh (the OT), nor do they know how important Isra'el is to God and His Son, the Messiah! Some Gentile believers were even taught that modern Christianity has even superceded Isra'el, a philosophy started back in the 4th century PURPOSELY to separate the Gentile churches from their Jewish roots!
Furthermore, ALL of Islam teaches that "Allah" has no Son! That, too, is this "spirit of antichrist." Therefore, we have a whole world FULL of people with the "spirit of antichrist!"
Now, what I think you mean is "Do we all believe that the MAN OF SIN (the MAN OF LAWLESSNESS or the MAN AGAINST THE TORAH) is already here on the earth. It is possible that this is the same as the Wild Animal (the Beast) that rises out of the sea in Rev. 12:18-13:10. If that is what you mean, then I think the consensus was that ... YES, he is already here, one way or another.
I do like the idea that haSatan, ever ready for the end, has a man standing by in EVERY generation who could fit the bill, since haSatan doesn't know when the end will be anymore than WE do! I believe that makes total sense.
Anyway, that's MY answer.

Well, not to get into a KJV argument, but I do believe that more recent translations are more accurate, particularly NET.
For example, 1 John 2:18 in KJV may say that "antichrist shall come," but is (more accurately  ) translated as "the antichrist is coming" in NET, NIV, TNIV, NLT, etc. So I see it as referring to the one in particular, but there are no doubt "antichrists" here-now.
But yes, the "Man of Sin/Lawlessness" is who I refer to. I like the idea of having multiple possibilities ready as well.

You're right as rain on "the antichrist is coming," but you neglected to quote the next phrase with it: "and now [at the time Yochanan wrote I John] many antichrists have arisen...". While there may be one person, the Man of Lawlessness or the Beast, who may demonstrate the definition of an antichrist more than others do, I still say it's the wrong designation.
However, I know that I'm just one of a few and that the majority still use the term. I guess I'm just sweeping sand off the beach...
