You think this should be the law?

Deuteronomy 22:28-29:

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Deuteronomy 22:23-24:

If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

Surely God had a purpose for the above...

John

PhunkD -> RE: No death penalty for child rapists (6/25/2008 11:56:50 PM)

So you think that rapists should not be killed, but forced to marry their victims and pay a bride-price?

Actually if you look harder you can find a verse that speaks of putting a rapist to death...

Obama, the most liberal senator even said that it was a bad decision. That ought to tell you something about the over stepping of the USSC on this issue.

Or that he is pandering in an election year. Can you imagine the ads if he were to seem soft on child rapists?

Change you can't believe in.

Obama has been opposed to capital punisment forever.

"An expert in pediatric forensic medicine testified that L. H.’s (girl) injuries were the most severe he had seen from a sexual assault in his four years of practice. A laceration to the left wall of the vagina had separated her cervix from the back of her vagina, causing her rectum to protrude into the vaginal structure. Her entire perineum was torn from the posterior fourchette to the anus. The injuries required emergency surgery."

attack GWB, protect this guy

This is for no reason other than to add a twist to the topic, but if it was your adult child who did the raping, would you do all you could to spare him/her from being put to death?

No, covering for sin is a sin itself...I have repeatedly taught my kids what is right and if they choose to disobey the laws they will suffer the consequences and they know it.

I am not surprised this case shows mercy towards the rapists and not the child. Children are among the least protected segment of society. Rape is a brutal crime regardless of the physical evidence and I have absolute zero sympathy for anyone who commits crime against a child.

I'm not sure how I feel about the SC getting involved in a state's criminal justice system

How can you be unsure of this? Putting aside the gruesome details of this monster's crime (difficult, I know), the the courts are taking away the rights of the states and the people, under the guise of protecting the constitution. We are heading full speed into a socialistic, even facistic state, led by the likes of Mass. Rep. ****an (won't let me spell name), Kennedy, Ginsberg, et al.

SonInMe1 -> RE: No death penalty for child rapists (6/26/2008 8:24:09 AM)

...and back talking kids as well.

We are not under the Law anymore. We have the Holy Spirit. The Law is written on our HEARTS, not our mind. An eye for an eye is no longer valid.

We don't have to kill killers. We protect innocents from those who seek to harm them. We show mercy to the merciless by not doing to them as they have done to others.

You really don't want christianity to be an eye for an eye...do you? Since christianity isn't an eye for an eye why should our government be? We...are the government. It should reflect what we believe.

You wanna throw child molestors in jail for life? I don't have a problem with that. It protects innocents. It shows mercy to those who have none...or deserve none...

just like us when Jesus saved us

Fascist states tend to have a lot of capital punishment- often as the signature of a repressive state, so some may see this as a step away from a Fascist state.

StephK -> RE: No death penalty for child rapists (6/26/2008 11:50:36 AM)

From the link in ljmac's post:

quote:

The State presented the testimony of S. L., who is the cousin and goddaughter of petitioner’s ex-wife. S. L. testified that petitioner sexually
abused her three times when she was eight years old and that the last time involved sexual intercourse. Id., at 772. She did not tell anyone until two years later and did not pursue legal action.

He damaged more than one girl. No telling how many he hurt over the years. Yet, the bleeding hearts would prefer to protect the guilty and forget the victims. [:'(]

Who's protecting the guilty here? The guy's going to be in jail the rest of his life. I would say that his life has been more messed up than his victim's. If they get the counseling they need, they may have a shot at a normal life.

It is difficult to have a normal life where you have a job and raise a family and enjoy yourself if you are in a maximum security prison on a sentence of life without parole.

It also tells us the consequences of being an insolent child whose parents take him to the town elders. Or kidnapping. Or doing seemingly random "unclean" things.

Can I ask the meaning of these two statements?

quote:

Fascist states tend to have a lot of capital punishment- often as the signature of a repressive state, so some may see this as a step away from a Fascist state
.

Fascist states use the death penalty for "enemies of the State". And the repressions by fascist governments are often administered through autocratic courts.
There is nothing fascist about protecting innocent victims (and society) by putting to death those that victimize them.

StephK -> RE: No death penalty for child rapists (6/26/2008 1:57:56 PM)

Being locked up doesn't stop these predators from their raping and murdering ways though.

quote:

Florida Authorities Say Inmate Raped, Murdered Corrections Officer

An inmate raped and murdered a female corrections officer at a prison in Daytona Beach, Fla., according to police.

Enoch Hall, 39, attacked Officer Donna Fitzgerald, 50, Wednesday night while she was on duty at Tomoka Correctional Institution, the state Department of Corrections reported.

.......

State prison records show that Hall is already serving two life sentences for sexual battery with a weapon and kidnapping convictions from a 1993 case.

Yeah, I guess that's what they were doing in Dred Scott vs. Sandford?

Yeah, I guess that's what they were doing in Dred Scott vs. Sandford?

In one case, there was an extension of the government's power to enforce property rights.

In the other case, there was a weakening of the government's power to use certain forms of punishment.

Stronger2day -> RE: No death penalty for child rapists (6/26/2008 4:08:03 PM)

While these sick people get minimum time, the kid who broke into his highschool and hacked the network to change school grades faces 38 years????????????????? It is more frowned upon to alter highschool grades than to violate innocent children.

bzirk -> RE: No death penalty for child rapists (6/26/2008 4:16:17 PM)

Yep, the courts are not the best at weighing which rights are more important, but we certainly have deferred to them as God.

When I think of Dred Scott, it's apparent the SC thought more of property rights than those of decency to a human being.

Really... What does that mean? Can you lie, murder, not honor your parents?

One's heart and mind are separate? How is that done???

Flawed logic... It's not sinful to punish the bad guy so it's NOT doing what they did... That makes NO sense whatsoever...
