Do you like to move? It's a great time to organize and clean house of all the things you don't ever use. Being a pack rat was never something I enjoyed doing. My motto typically has been, "If I didn't use it for a year, get rid of it," although I've managed to break that rule slightly, a vec en cuando(sometimes)

Does it scare/intimidate you to chat with someone that lives in another part of the world than you do? Perhaps even another state? What are the things we have in common with people of different places?

LOL, no!? We are a very chatty bunch of ladies in this folder, all from different states and parts of the world. I'm never intimidated to talk to anyone.

Where are you from?

I like moving, but I don't like the actual physical move (packing, moving truck, etc.). That's hard work. But I always love the change in scenery and starting things fresh again.

ETA: Oh! Lori, you changed your name and didn't have your avatar up, LOL!!!! There you are!

(I'm trying to change my avatar and can't, but maybe in the apartment it'll change when the internet is faster...so frustrating)

For those that don't know, I'm living W A Y down south in Mexico.

Nope, no intimidation here at all...atleast not online that is. I do get intimidated in real life a lot though. I am working on it!

I have moved once from my parents to my hubby's apartment so not much to move there and then from our apartment to our house again not much to move as newlyweds. I did enjoy the fresh start and getting rid of junk. I still get a thrill out of throwing away garbage bags of junk or giving it to goodwill. So I would say starting fresh and getting rid of junk are the best.

There's a good part about moving????

I just moved for teh 17th time in the last 10 years. I HATE it. I hope to be at this current place for awhile.

I love my new place and my new neighborhood though. Everyone is really nice, it's quiet, feels safe, and 10 miles closer to work. I have lots more space and I was able to get all my stuff out of storage. So I guess that's a good thing.

The moving part though??? Not fun. Not good. And dont' want to do it again for a LONG time.

I absolutely HATE moving! The best part about the whole process is when it is over!!!

Nope, in fact I relish in it! For me it's a chance to learn something new!

Blessings,

I like the cleaning out aspect of moving. When we moved last time we went through absolutely everything and got rid of a lot of junk. I also love it if I can get in to clean before we move in. I love moving into a freshly cleaned place. I am always sad about leaving old neighbors and anxious about our new neighbors and worried whether we will like them. We usually do so I don't know why I fret so much about that. For me one of the most intimidating things about meeting people from other countries is understanding them. It doesn't take long before I can understand someone even if they have a thick accent. One of our employees right now is from Brazil and another is from Belgium. It is interesting to learn about their homelands and customs. The woman from Brazil took her citizenship test and became a US citizen while she was working with us.

I like moving....the clean start, the fun planning, the excitement, the hurrying around w/ boxes, the excuse to order pizza.

Not that I like packing much but the rest is exciting.

I love unpacking and finding places for things.

I finally have enough room for all my things. I wish I had enough shelves for all my books!

It's a great reason to get rid of a bunch of junk that seemed valuable until you had to mess with moving it.

I also love meeting new people, and that's a surefire way to do it.

Where are you living, might I ask? I may have some pointers, or points of interest for you ...

If you mention anywhere farther south than Tapachula, Chiapas, that'll be a challenge

As far as moving, I loved getting rid of the 'stuff' and NEVER once had a hard time finding people willing to be blessed...

Well, we own our home in Guadalajara and my husband pastor's a bilingual church an hour away in Lake Chapala. We'll be celebrating 2 years pastoring here and this is actually the 2nd time we've moved here. The first time was last fall for about 4 months and I was miserable. I missed our life and ministry that we had in Guadalajara and finally we all moved back a few months ago. Then, my husband just wasn't quite right and we were afraid he'd have a nervous breakdown and we had to reevaluate everything. He doesn't like the commute, nor does the city, 6 million+, agree with him. So, we are renting a house w/in walking distance of the church. Last time we lived in the small apartment over the church and that was totally depressing for me.

So, what kind of suggestions do you have for me? I'm lacking moving boxes and I can't lift anything over 10 pounds. Other than that, I'm great at delegating.

The reason I asked if people were afraid to talk to people living in other countries is because I'd posted something about being nervous in the women's forum and only 2 ladies responded in 2 weeks. Then I posted an update and no body responded. As a missionary, I was a little discouraged and thought perhaps if I rephrase it, someone would talk to me. I think it was too similar so they put my op over here in home and garden. I didn't want to break a TOS and didn't know what else to do. Oh, and I'm not nervous about talking to different people, I thought maybe others were uncomfortable talking to me or felt they couldn't relate to me. I'm nervous about moving because I'm leaving my home and would like to sell it so I could bring closure.

I love talking to new people and making new friends.

AND

We're in the early stages of moving out of state...so, I'm there.

Sorry you didn't get much of a response over in the other folder. That happens occasionally. People may read a post and not get around to replying and then they forget they read it.

Do you own a house in the US that you're selling? Are you renting where you are now?

I'm nervous and excited about our move. We're doing little things to the house to get it ready to go on the market.

My first piece of advice would be... don't live in an apartment over/under/attached to the church BTDT Blocks away is even a stretch, but not as bad...
How well do you know your church members? I found when I moved, some were willing to help, but several were just interested in 'looking'... but, at least in future moves, I knew who to contact

As a matter of fact, when I did that (did I advise against it LOL) I was living in Jalisco (between Guad and Manzanillo), running a ministry while the primary couple were in the US battling illnesses. I did later live near my 'attending church', but that wasn't so bad, as I was a part of it (praise team, choir director, evangelism, etc), not trying to keep it afloat...

I adore talking to people from other countries, and at work I currently translate for a woman from Peru- I had been translating for 2 puertorriquenas as well, but they moved. I am sure I will meet more soon, I have a knack for that . I had an interestinrg experience trying to communicate with a vietnamese person one time, as neither spoke the others language, but the univerals language of smiles, and many hand gestures, did a lot that time.

Almost missed the 'moving boxes' part :) If you have the money, and want to go 'traditional' is there a mercado around you? I love love love baskets and jars and things from that region, and they are practical as well as making good storage, gifts, etc. later on...

For me, moving is not a big deal. But in my biz I've moved many times, and I'm super ADHD organized. My wife has gone through 3 moves with me and my biz, and still doesn't understand how to clean out, toss out, and pack. I end up doing it, which entails fights and arguments. So an "organized" girl friend has offered to help this time (yes we are in middle of moving now), and things are going much smoother. I told her yesterday that she's hired until this deal is done!

Well Kuku,

Autlan isn't very big. Were you on the Baptist compound? Did you help in the coffee shop? I'm friends w/John & Elizabeth. Did you know Eva's church? I guess better question would be how long ago you were there? How long were you here?

It is bigger than most people think ;) I worked with 4 different pastors while I was there, and knew another half a dozen or so... I must admit they had some good food, and learning the local customs was 'fun' ...

We own a home in the states that we are selling as well as Guadalajara, Mexico. We are entering a rental contract on a house where my husband pastors.

A few more questions... From your avatar I gather you are not hispanic. Are you married to one, or are you a missionary couple? If I may be so bold, who are you in Mexico with?

Oh my goodness, yes He is! He's a wonderful protector, provider and defender. We've faced some pretty big giants down here and God has stepped in numerous times and protected us. Many times without our knowing it and later finding out through the grapevine. I feel like God will give us a good enemy to keep us on our knees. That's a good position to stay in when we are serving God. He is faithful and if you can take the heat of the trials and keep doing what God has told you to do, you will see great victories!!! For HIS glory and HIS name, not ours!

Haven't read past this, but it's my opinion that not too many people read that forum, and that's why the lack of response. I guess I base that on the very subjective view that I seldom look at that folder much less post in it. Hope that helps perhaps shed some light on the lack of response. Other than that, I don't understand it because we have people from all over the world posting on this site.

edited for clarity. That's what I get for not checking my post before hitting ok.
