GenyaJ -> Pain Killers (6/26/2008 11:18:53 AM)

Hello family. I have loved the Lord for over 30 years and serve Him with a grateful heart as best as He gives me the strength to. In the last several years I have been in a lot of pain and have been able to take mild pain killers, prescription. Lately I am concerned that this is not what a Christian should depend on for relief. I try to stay away from these but the pain both physical and now even mental is more than I can bear. I daily cry to God to be free from pain and these pills. I never thought I would end up like this. My life is precious and also actually good when I do take the medication. I am afraid I may be missing the Lord/The Holy Spirit. Can someone share their testimony on this or share their heart with God on this?
God Bless.

If you had diabeties, would you continue to take medication or would you stop taking it in case you missed the Lord? If not, why are you stressing about pain killers?

I take medication (including for pain) for different conditions. My pain isn't really strong, but because it's constant it affects me. I don't take painkillers every day, but I do take a course of pain killers at times.

You may want to look into different ways of dealing with your pain. Here (UK) there are pain clinics ~ there may be something available and suitable for you where you live.

I do believe that we should look at the medications that we take and evaluate them regularly to see how we're doing on them. My asthma meds were changed recently ~ I use the new one daily, but hardly touch the old one (which I can still use). It actually works better for me because I'm not having as many asthma attacks. I'm looking at coming off some meds (at some point) to see how I do without them. May work. May not. It will be under a doctor's supervision.

If you need the meds, take them. Being in pain may make you miss the Lord more than taking the meds would.

I am so sorry for your pain.

In order to answer your question, may I ask a you few questions?

-What is the pain medication?
-What is the condition you are taking it for?
-How long have you been taking it?
-Are you taking it exactly as prescribed, i.e., no more than it says and no more often than it says?

Thanks and God bless.

I agree with all Kat's questions, but would also point out that it's important to take medication the right number of times a day as prescriibed too. Taking it too few times can be just as bad as taking too many times.

It's fine if you take these pills, only if you're not abusing them. A lot of nonchristians don't think sleeping pills are right either. But I have insomnia. And I would rather sleep then stay awake all the time. So I take them. haha.

I take pain killers every day and have for years.
I went through feeling guilty for a while too.
Now I look at them as a necessity,
Without them I can not walk, sit, lay, sleep or even bathe myself at times because the pain is so overwhelming.
I have no quality of life without them. With them I can do most things and care for myself.
They never take away all the pain but at least I feel like I can function as a human being.
I never thought I would end up like this either but I have to face the reality of it.
I dont abuse them and take the least amount as possible.
I thank the Lord everyday for the releif after suffering for many years.
