Like Dallas, Chicago, The Bay Area, Atlanta..... does it get better with a larger pop. Cause it really stinks where I live. I havn't found anyone I want to date in years but I have in larger cities through the internet.

I am also wondering specifically about singles in their thirties.

Well, I'm not in my thirties (dancing) but I really think size population has a lot to do with it, and how close you are to things. Where I live there is NOTHING to do around here that isn't a 15 mile drive or more. It's a bit harder to just 'go out' and do things. *shrug*

Big cities usually have bigger singles populations.

I would guess that it's probably true, although I've never really lived in a big city before. But sometimes it does feel like I've already met all the single Christian women in the state. I imagine you wouldn't get that feeling in larger metropolitan areas.

I'm a small-town girl at heart and I have talked to countless people who are not... they prefer large cities because there is more to do, and that's fine. These people are usually single. So my viewpoint is that there are many more singles in the cities because there's more to do. So yeah, the single's "scene" is probably more populated there. I drive 30 miles to church and the single's group is much larger there than in any other church I've attended... and ladies, there are more men here than there are women!!

I look around my town and everyone is married or has been married. I remember dating in my late teens and early twenties and feeling "the great marriage rush" with a gal I dated who wanted to get hitched A.S.A.P. I don't think she was unique.

So my town: everyone my age is married except me, with a few exceptions.

I then watch T.V. shows (No I don't watch that one show with the four women) where it is the opposite of my town. Where everyone my age is single except for a minority. Is that the way it really is for larger towns or different parts of the country. ( I live in the South).

There are certainly more singles in big cities, but big cities tend to break up into small communities centred around neighbourhood, work, church or hobby.

Singles most likely form a higher percentage of a big cities population, but you won't meet all of them, and most of them aren't Christian, and aren't great prospects. I'm sure I see two hundred single women a day, but only really know a handful.

The Office. but think about most others: Sienfield, Grey's Anat., Sex in the City, E.R., Scrubs, ... just about all of them are full of people in their twenties, thirties and forties who are sinlge, the opposite of my experience.

TV is a very artificial environment, and singles on a show leave a writer free to invent romantic entanglements among established characters.

Don't watch those TV shows! [;)] Like Edwin said, they're fake. They want you to think that everyone is having sex ten times a week and that Christians are idiots.

Do you live anywhere near a larger city? Singleness is on the rise everywhere, so you are very likely to encounter more singles in even the more sparsely populated areas.

And no doubt the opposite of the experience of all the actors portraying the characters, as well.

Even reality TV isn't reality. But TV is a very powerful medium. That's why I, personally, limit what I watch.

Okay, I agree that T.V. can be filled with just plain junk and can be a terrible influence. My whole point in bringing that up was that I figured those shows might mirror in some way the singles scene in larger cities. Some parts of T.V. CAN reflect reality. I am not basing my life on T.V., atleast I hope I am not. I am only asking if the amount of singles portrayed in some T.V. shows represents, to any degree, what the singles scene is like outside small town U.S.A.



Someone said something about being in a sea of singles but only getting to know a few because, well, you can only get to know so many people. Good point. I wonder if my chances would still be better to meet more singles. I would probably go to a larger church. Most of my friends I met through church. If I am correct, larger churches in larger cities would have a lot larger singles scene than those in much smaller cities.

Yes. There are more fish in the sea and there are more things to do in big cities. And you don't have the small town "Oh, I saw you out with so-and-so over the weekend. So, how's that going? Have you two set a date yet?" and you just started dating him.

I live in a pretty large city and I don't find it all that great. Of course, I also don't go anywhere to meet anyone, either. [:D]

Excellent point!

I was recently doing some research on my local area and came across some info that the city where I live is rated as one of the best places for relocating singles. I just shook my head b/c I couldn't see why. But I guess if you look at all the bars and such that have opened in the last few years in this area it would be. But I wouldn't want to date anyone that frequented those establishments on a regular basis. It always is a different situation for true Christian singles. By true Christians I meant people who are Christains 24/7 not just Sunday or only on Christmas and Easter.

I've been told that some parts of the news are based on reality.

Large churches in large cities may have a larger singles scene, but don't bet on it. And in large churches you don't get to know everyone anyway.

I live in a city of well over three million people, and I haven't found it easy.

Eh, I see it this way. Years ago I would say yes, TV reflected reality. But more and more so, I see TV dictating reality. Writers/Producers have an agenda and they want you to buy it! It ensures they keep their job. TV is very political... ALL of it.

Wouldn't it be nice if they included churches in those ratings? Or maybe if churches were rated on their singles-friendliness... not to say that one church is "better" than another, but maybe a checklist of what that church had to offer to singles. Family-friendly environment? Active single's ministry? Great for older-singles? Just a thought.

The odds are better in the larger cities with larger churches that have singles ministries. That being said, it doesn't mean you'll meet your mate there, but at least you can make friends that are in the same season of life. The bigger cities' (within the city, not its suburbs) singles ministries will likely have more never married folks in their 30's than say a singles ministry in a suburb. Single parents are more likely to live in suburbs so the kids go to the better schools.

I live in NY and have to say also NO. I'm 40 years old and haven't had a date in over ten years. I see a sea of people everyday, been to the big mega churches and the smaller churches with memberships between 20 people to 28,000 people. Singles ministries no single ministries. Yet still haven't had a date in over 10 years. Last time I had a boyfriend I was in my 20's.

You don't have to be in a big city or small city to meet someone you just have to be where God wants you. Thinking maybe going to a bigger city or smaller city, medium sized city etc. is just our way of trying to rationalize why we are still single.
