I hope so. It's been a while since I've described the forest here in CW. Unlike the US, there is a band of forest, about 1000 miles north to south that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific in Canada. It extends as far north as the Arctic tree line (where it's too cold for trees to grow). The "Woods" you have in Northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota is the southernmost part of that forest. In Manitoba, the entire eastern border is in the forest but starting from near the south-east corner of the province, the southern edge of the forest moves in a diagonal line until, on the western border, the southern quarter or third is forestless. The triangle that remains (a right triangle sitting on the US border) is the beginning of the Prairies. Winnipeg is about a half hour west and south of the edge of the forest. Once you enter the forest it can feel like it will never end. But thankfully, we only drive another hour or so inside the forest. Here the ground is granite, the trees' roots taking advantage of every little crack in the rock. There are a multitude of lakes (Manitoba boasts of having 100,000 and Ontario surely has more), bogs, streams, rivers, rocks and, of course, trees. The roads are narrow and twisty. No freeways come near this part of Canada. Even the major truck route, once you enter Ontario, is one lane each direction with narrow gravel shoulders or, in many places, no shoulders at all. We're staying at a small Christian camp at the edge of a lake. The camp can accommodate about 50 people if they're all really well squeezed in. The speaker for the week has one session a day in the morning and the rest of the time is free. There are great hiking/biking trails, canoes and in the afternoon the camp's motorboat is running non-stop for water skiers, tubers and those who want to sit and enjoy some time out on the water. There's a good, naturally sandy beach as well. I'll take my computer so I can write, a pile of books so I can read and hope to do some walking to build up my strength. Most of the people there I only know in passing, though dh is very good at becoming "good friends" with all of them. It should be a good time if my mouth behaves itself. Now, if I could just get to sleep!
