Here is a wonderful article I want to share with you. Read it here and tell me what you think.

Jemtree -> RE: Expectations (6/30/2008 11:43:50 PM)

Good article. It was me. LOL!

Ellie-Mae -> RE: Expectations (7/1/2008 8:20:59 AM)

It was a good article and certainly gives some things to think about. Most of my guilt pits have been different ones than the ones listed in this article, but the answer is still the same.[:)]

amybreit -> RE: Expectations (7/1/2008 8:21:08 AM)

Great article!!! It brought tears to my eyes!

Homegrownkids -> RE: Expectations (7/1/2008 9:12:18 AM)

I enjoyed it and sent it to some others. It hit home with me! Oh the guilt of watching my kids do school in their pj's and starting at 10am[&:] Glad I'm not alone!

I got a chuckle about going to the thrift stores to buy more phones to dismantle[;)]

It really did hit on a lot of areas that homeschoolers struggle with. After all these years of homeschooling, I still struggle with some of that stuff, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is what the Lord has laid before our family. It is amazing how He has provided for us over the years, so we can continue to homeschool. I should read that article weekly once school starts!

Loved the article. Thanks for posting.

This is the biggest hurdle for homeschoolers -- much more of a hurdle than figuring out how to teach their kids something like algebra.[8D]

At some point you hope they ask themselves and the Lord, "Where did my expectations come from and are they appropriate?"

I went to the homeschooling convention this year with an old friend of mine who's also homeschooled for a while -- a total of 9 years. She has a situation similar to mine. She homeschooled for three years and then quit for several years, and now has been back at it for six years. We both know what it means to get real about expectations, but it was not a painfree process. But we're glad to have gone through it.

Well, the weekend of the convention we interacted with quite a few mothers, and there were several who had these unrealistic expectations. We just prayed for them that the Lord's wisdom and peace would rest on them.

I think I've shared a few times [;)] how the Lord dealt with and continues to deal with my unrealistic expectations. It was indeed something I wouldn't wish on someone, but I realize it is a great blessing to me and in turn my family.

Consecrated2God -> RE: Expectations (7/2/2008 8:33:41 AM)

Good article. I especially liked the part near the end where she decided to start school at 10:00 am from now on. I enjoyed it because I had already decided this next school year to start school at ten, because in the past I've always tried to start earlier and it's never worked out. We always end up starting at ten, so I might as well just plan on it!

Calea37 -> RE: Expectations (7/3/2008 8:40:32 AM)

Yes, thanks for sharing.

It also reminded me of how important it is to surround myself with support instead of people who will discourage me; that makes a HUGE difference. I can have a decent grip on what is important and what I know God is calling me to do (homeschool) and then I find myself in the company of some "well meaning" person who wants to grill me and question our decision to homeschool. [&o]

The longer I homeschool, the more I see that those expectations come from the world and our society and are deeply ingrained in me. I figure by the time both kids have graduated I should have a really good grip on it![&:] lol

shakeray -> RE: Expectations (7/9/2008 9:54:54 PM)

I like that. My husband says he thinks I will need a very strict schedule to make HS work.

shadowspring -> RE: Expectations (7/10/2008 6:42:00 PM)

LOL! Our strict schedule is this: we focus on school until it's done. [:)]

If we start paperwork at eight, that is great. But so is nine or ten. Or even, if there were drs appts or a field trip to take, noon or one.

As long as the work gets done, I am pretty flexible on timing.
