ORIGINAL: 29redballoons Hey ladies, my dd came home today and said that her friend didn't have several needed items in their home. We knew her dad had not been working but did not know how bad it was. We went to store and picked up groceries to take over...dd got scared and begged us not to take them cause they would be mad at her for telling. So we bought a gift card for the grocery store and took it and put it in their mailbox...what else can I do and salvage my dd's friendship at the same time? Any suggestions on how to help proud people...and I know we are all proud at times, I am not meaning that in a detrimental way. Red, been in that situation, and cash or gift cards have been really useful. I'm sure they'd be really grateful. Other than bra or swimwear shopping, I don't mind shopping at all, if I have the finances. Sometimes I feel God telling me to buy groceries or other items for people who need it, and to me, I have such a ball! I'm a mercy person, so to be able to meet somebody else's needs is a real blessing to me. It's such a buzz! It hasn't been a good 2 days. Yesterday was the 7th anniversary of my dad's death. Today has been extremely painful. I can barely walk due to pain, and even lifting a cup to have a drink is almost enough to make me scream.

Not sure how the card was accepted, not sure if we gave enough, but we put one in their mailbox. The friend told dd that she gave it to her mom and her mom cried. I really wish we would have put more on it. We are on vacation and I don't mind telling you all, I feel very guilty blowing money when they need groceries. How do we make sure we, ourselves and those in our immediate circle of exsistence, have adequate amounts if we aren't able to be honest with each other? Also, how do we know when to help others or when the Lord is working in their lives and we should stay out of the way? Am I way over thinking this? Do any of you struggle with this? Roberta, how are things today? Sorry that I seem so self centered...

When we are not sure, follow the leading of the H.S. (easier said than done sometimes) Last Christmas my friends and I were having a Yankee Swap gift exchange. M'love bought some sliced salted ham, the kind vaccum packed in plastic and can be stored on the shelf until opened. I thought that it was a crazy present BUT our daughter, who is struggling like most young adults on their own, chose that gift from under the Christmas tree. She opened the present and yelled out, "MEAT" and hugged it. Noone had the heart to exchange it with her. And here I was thinking m'love was nuts for chosing that as a gift. He was listening to God and I missed it. God is good.

I have to agree with just trusting the Holy Spirit in situations like that. I've been in the position of both giving and receiving. Pray about how much to give, when to give and in what form to give. I can give you an example of something I did a few years ago. A friend who is a single mum was really struggling with finances. I felt led to get her and her kids some groceries. I prayed before I went to the supermarket and picked out some things for them. To me, it seemed like a weird combination of groceries, but I was obedient. When I took them to her that afternoon, she was completely flabbergasted. She'd been shopping that morning and had to put things back because she didn't have enough money for those items. They were the things that I'd brought her. I hadn't had a clue what she needed or even liked. I wasn't even sure they needed groceries. God led though. If God wants you to give, just ask Him to show you and to make you alert to when and how. I don't know how many times that happened just with that friend alone. Don't feel guilty about having money for a holiday. God gives you money to bless others who need it, but He also allows you to use it for your own needs and blessings. If God's led you to have a holiday, He'll provide the money for it too. car2ner, that's so great about the meat for Christmas! I know of another couple who were given meat for Christmas years ago. They had just had their 7th child, and the husband had just lost his job. A lady I know gave them a particular cut of meat, and the parents just sat down and cried. The husband had been a chef, and he'd really been wanting this particular cut of meat so that he could cook it for his family. God knows our needs and desires, even down to a particular cut of meat.

I have a drs. appt. that I have to leave for in about an hour. I'm nervous about that.

My day isn't going all that well, but it will get better....at least I pray it is so!!! The Holy Spirit definitely does lead....we just have to be conscious of His leading & follow him. I need to go work out...maybe that will help my day improve! Have a great day everyone!!!!

Oh, when will today end? Both kids have had tantrums (H is in the middle of hers now) and even E is about to get grounded for the weekend with his whining. Where's Calgon when you need it? Tomorrow's Saturday and I'm glad. Hopefully after taekwondo I can get the twins to rest a bit. Then Sunday is church if the car cooperates this time. Right now I just want to get them to bed and watch a movie. Something tells me I'll be lucky to stay awake that long. {sigh} Have a nice day, ladies.

Beth, I need some Calgon here too. I'll try to settle for a run here after a bit. Just need to get a bottle of water cold first. Guess that starts with me getting OFF the computer and filling one up to put in the freezer.... TY, Jennifer...I do hope my day goes better as well. If it hasn't been the kid acting up, I've been having disagreements with DH and he's at work! So...that tends to get drawn out as we don't get to talk as much as if we were both at home. He was home for lunch & we apologized whatnot...so all is good now.
