I've been battling this for several weeks and it's not like laryngitis...just lots of yuck on my cords due to all the particulate matter in the air. I've been doing saline treatments to try to knock some of it off. God always comes through, though. I just get nervous when it's this close. Thanks for the prayers. Oh...never heard of salty potato chips and water....interesting....

Oh...never heard of salty potato chips and water....interesting.... I haven't heard of the potato chip thing either, but I think it prolly has to do with the salt factor. I went to a dr once for mild allergies, and something she recommended to me (which I had also never heard of in any voice classes) was to NOT gargle salt water. She said that if you mess up the salt/water ratio it can do more damage than good. She recommended just gargling w/ regular mouthwash because the ratio was better. *shrugs* makes sense to me--- too much salt can dry out the chords...

And when you warm up for Saturday, warm up very slowly, and very lightly. besiderself Oh yeah...I've a degree in vocal music myself. When I had medication-enduced laryngitis when we recorded our last project, I drank a mix of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. I also have a steroid nasal wash that helps in extreme cases.

LOL....yeah, this was a pretty extreme case for me! My doc had just changed my asthma meds and I had a full-blown case of laryngitis. It was only through God's grace that I was able to record anything. I had to go back to the studio and record one of my ballads, though, because I couldn't sing soft and high enough to do it with any justice. It barely sounds like me on the project. I've also found Mucinex to be my friend. It really helps break up all that junk.

I never get laryngitis (me's got some heavy duty strong vocal chords), but a few years ago after thanksgiving I got so sick that I lost 100% of my voice. Not even a squeak. Wouldn't be a problem, but I had to sing in a choral concert (I was up there lip syncing the whole thing), and had other finals that I had to sing for (including a musical w/ lead role). The night before the first of my finals, my voice was restored enough to sing the next day. However, for the musical they had to transpose my song UPWARDS by half an octave because I had no lower range at all.

Wow...that's amazing. God's good like that. I feel ya though.... I was sick the entire time I was in college as a music major. Had no insurance, so I was on and off antibiotics and prednisone every couple of months that I'd get from the doc in the box. It totally stunk. For a while, my voice teacher didn't even know what sort of rep to give me because I had the range of a soprano (dramatic at the time) and the timbre of a mezzo. My voice was very unpredictable even up until 2005. I finally got the asthma under control and that fixed most of everything. I had pretty profound hoarseness the night before my senior recital. Fortunately, God came through once again and I delivered my senior recital, coloratura bits and all, without a hitch!!!! I haven't had real laryngitis since the recording debacle, and I think I just get paranoid. We've got pretty poor air quality around here, well, it's moderate with the particulate matter, and it really bugs me.

great point lisa - how much do you think packers would pay not to be embarassed by favre beating them opening week of season in prime time or losing the division to a rival like the vikings! i think packers definately have upper hand by being able to trade him to a team it appears he doesnt want to play for but i dont know they will follow through with it.

Seriously!!!!!!!!! BIG talk here in Tampa about him coming here. I don't care for the Bucs, so it makes no difference to me, but, the hype is fun to see.

The man may be retired but he's still the best quarterback alive. If he wants to play he needs to come to camp and try out. Else he needs to sit back and take a rest. Personally I'd love to see him play another year but I expect he'll sit out once he gets used to it.
